Could the Meta use a "Most Wanted" list?

By Marinealver, in X-Wing

No, pretty sure TIE/D is costed exactly where it needs to be.

Do people have, like, amnesia? Nobody really flew Defenders before either title because they were overcosted, and could not take the imperial end-all miracle cure of AT. They need point reduction or "free" new abilities to jump back to being usable at all. It's why those cards exist (besides TIE/D being very much in-line with the original Defender lore)

Mostly terms of simplicity, The idea came from Andriod: Netrunner when they came out with their Most Wanted List which increased the influence cost of the cards on it by 1. Now I know spending influence on Netrunner is not the same as spending squadron points on X-wing but I decided to take a look at some of the regional top 4 lists and noticed that many of them were at 99/100 and all but one used cards on the list. So taking a look a +1 tax was more than enough to cause many of those championship winning meta list to have to go through some revision or drop an upgrade or two that wasn't a critical component of the meta.

Because in Netrunner you only have 15 influence to spend most of the time and that extra cost will be duplicated across every copy you run.

With X-Wing you've got to be able to tune the hikes. Palpatine going from 8 to 9 will change very little. Palpatine going from 8 to 16 could very well kill him off.

Yeah, you could make Zuckuss 5 points and it wouldn't really hurt dengaroo much, though it would make the party bus a lot less viable. I think very few people would say the party bus with 1 point zuckuss is a problem in this game.

Just make zuckuss once per round so he can't be abused by dengar, gunners, or double attack secondary weapons.

The Zuckuss fix is really simple: errata on the same condition as Primed Thrusters: he doesn't work when you stack three stress onto him. He still works as originally designed but the stress stacking combo no longer functions.

I play netrunner too and I must admit that the MWL is an excellent way of balancing the game as tine goes on.

I would love to see something similar and point cost is reallu the way to go.

That being said, I think the biggest design mistake in X-Wing are big bonuses without restrictions. Autothrusters is great but Manaroo is not. Really good benefits should have a downside and if it isn't correctly priced, a MWL can fix that.

A most wanted list seems fine to me. Could run it the other way also/instead.

Stockpile: the first time you take each upgrade on this list, increase the maximum squad points you can take by 1.
