I am looking for a new solution for Large Base Ship Cards, I had been using this clamshell from the Container Store but it only holds maybe five or six. I have not been able to locate anything that is size appropriate.
Large Base Ship Card Storage Solutions
I keep all my ship cards by faction in zip loc bags. The large bases are however all stored in one large zip loc bag (or resealable bag for those not in the US... like me).
They then just get stored flat in the box that also houses the other templates, rulers etc.
Mine are in the Plano cases underneath the ship models themselves.
the problem I have is the bases, since I prefer (whenever possible) to keep pegs attached to my bases to speed set up and tear down.
FFG just needs to create storage solutions for their products and make life easier on everyone else.
BCW and ultrapro make binder pages for oversized magic cards, four sleeves per page.
I put all my large ship tokens in them.
I've bought these, which is pretty nice:

The big bin in the Stanley boxes (and knockoffs, I'd imagine) fit a huge stack of them. I've got 20 large ships worth of base plates in 3 of them, but only because I want them split by faction, they'd fit nicely in 2 bins.
They're so cheap in the US that they're worth it. I'd argue they're still worth it at twice the price in Canada, but it stings more
I use empty tea tins. Of course, you have to like tea. . .

Interesting. I've not seen those before. Do you have a link?
Feldherr large ship foams have a convenient space for their card & base.
My wife found these little metal Star Wars lunch boxes that are really neat. They are too small to actually hold a lunch, but they could hold a bunch of large base inserts and such. I've decided to use mine for all my non-standard tokens. I've kind of shuffled mine all over the place and when I actually want to use one, I can never find it. So...I'll just put them all in that thing.
If you're old like me and never throw anything away, I use the binder style pages designed to hold 4x 5-1/4" or 6x 3" floppy disks. Base and pilot card go in card binder, dial with the rest of the small ship dials.
Now, if I could find some of the pages designed to hold the 8" floppy disks, the bases for huge ships would be a cinch to store.
Edit: They used sell a zippered envelope that went into 3 ring binders for school kids to keep pens, pencils, rulers etc. These would work pretty well to keep cardboard bases and dials in.
Edited by StonefaceI didn't save any 5 1/4 holders, but I saw my Dad still has some! Too funny! It wasn't a binder, but it was the little plastic thing that holds them.

Given that I'm the Hoarder and my wife is the Purger, I love when stuff like this happens and I am vindicated!!
This talk about old methods for storing floppy disks just made me think: seems like a CD/DVD tower/plastic storage container might be a good candidate for storing large base inserts. Haven't measured the large base inner hole radius to see if it fits the middle post of a CD container but I have enough of those laying around from buying blank CDs/DVDs 10-15 years ago that I'm going to give it a try tonight when I get home. For reference:

Just tested, a Lambda shuttle's base fits on the spindle I had laying around at my PC. (yes, I still use Audio CDs, and not only MP3/4 audio fastfood).
Problem with the spindle idea is you would need to take them all off every time you look for one.

Edited by StonefaceI have been using a small card box, actually one of the old X wing boxes that came out as early prizes. You can stack quite a bit of them in there.
If you can find them, the binder pages for 3.5 floppy disks are perfect. I found an unopened pack for 99 cents in a Resale store and there were enough for all of my large bases. You can still find some on Ebay and other sites.
I was using some Plano case that came in the top of my Plano 1357. I never really used it before, but it fits all my large bases...at the moment.
