Backdraft, Inquisitor, Yorr (01/14/2018 Now QuickDraw)

By Tbetts94, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Is this actually as good as I think it is? I've played with it a little bit and it has performed amazingly. Only games I have lost were a couple games verses bombing K-Wings, but I kinda never do good versus bombs. Anyways, I stole this Backdraft build from a local player because I was in awe when he took down one of my defenders one on one. He hits like a truck and by saving his focus on defense, Sensor Cluster, LWF, and Palp he's a monster. Yorr in the list makes up not having Tie Mk 2 and Expertise doesn't get shut down. Inquisitor is there to make sure one autothruster ship is in the list in this meta and strips tokens before Backdraft just murders someone.

Kashyyyk (100)

"Backdraft" (37) - TIE/SF Fighter

Expertise (4), Fire Control System (2), Sensor Cluster (2), Special Ops Training (0), Lightweight Frame (2)

The Inquisitor (31) - TIE Adv. Prototype

Push The Limit (3), TIE/v1 (1), Autothrusters (2)

Captain Yorr (32) - Lambda-Class Shuttle

Collision Detector (0), Emperor Palpatine (8), Emperor Palpatine (8)

Pretty sure you can't have two Palpatines in your squad. Aren't named cards unique?

That's just a product of the squad generator. It does that to fill both crew slots so you don't actually put more crew in than you can.

I'm not a huge fan of inquisitor in this meta, i just dont think his 3 dice with tl ae enough to punch through mindlink or defenders. Id try the list with carnor, hes a little harder to fly but youll absolutely devatsate the things that bacckdraft shoots.

Carnor is interesting, but like you said, he is harder to fly. I'll try Inquisitor in the list a little more versus defenders to see if it's worth making the switch.

How important are lightweight frame and sensor cluster?

LWF is extremely important, Sensor Cluster is still up for debate. I'm not sure if it's worth the 2 point investment, but LWF has been in every game.

Went 3-1 today at a tournament and beat Trip Defenders at the top table in the final match. Didn't place first since there were multiple 3-1's and I lost the MOV tiebreaker by 10 points. The last match was recorded, so I'll post the link when it's up there.

How did Inquisitor work out? Im thinking of pairing him with Quickdraw in a list.

Backdraft with Expertise and FCS seems very mean. Was sensor cluster useful? I went against a Backdraft and Quickdraw list, both with Sensors and they never used them.

Yeah today was the most effective day for Sensor Cluster for me. if I could get it off once a game it's worth the points in my book. That's essentially a shield Upgrade or Hull Upgrade. Final match it saved maybe 3-4 health and won me the game. Inquisitor worked out good. Now this Triple defender player is a lot more aggressive than most and took TL's when most will take focuses. I want to try it versus Defenders more. Im trying to figure out a way to get Prockets in the list too to make him more effective.

Won another 2 games with it today. Beat Heaver's Assaj list vs a really good local player. Overall 14-3 with it.

I really like the synergy that whole build. Maximizing the use of that defensive focus while letting Expertise and FCS do all the heavy-lifting for the attack is downright terrifying. Interestingly, you could build a pair of generics like that; though it wouldn't leave room for PalpYorr.

I'm 18-4 with it now and as confident with it as I was with Commonwealth. I've also tried 3 SF's, same Backdraft load out and two Omega Specialists with Crack, AC, Title, Sensor Cluster. Gonna probably run that for Hanger Bay I think. Loads of fun.

How about this build for Backdraft?

Backdraft

Predator

Sensor Jammer

Sensor cluster

Light Frame

I fear the durability of the TIE SF.

Hey, I'd like to watch that match. Was it ever posted?

It was round 4 of that tournament, we're doing the audio Tuesday for round 2. We are kinda new to the video stuff so it's taken some time. Think we got it down now though, so a video a week is what we're planning.

Here is Round 1, so go ahead and subscribe to the channel to get the notifications :)

I haven't tried that load out, but I think it's good. I love the damage output of mine and it is still very survivable, so there's not much too I would change in my build.

And, subscribed. Looks good.

Our recording session is delayed a week due to it being on Valentines Day. Anyways, tomorrow I will be driving to San Diego for Kashyyyk. As of today I'm 24-5 with this list. My goal is to make Day 2. Feeling very comfortable flying the list versus about everything except K-Wings. Parattani I haven't had much practice against but I got a game plan. If I somehow make the cut and face K-Wings then I do have a fortress set up with backdraft/Yorr. Wouldn't want to do it, but hey I'm not stupid enough to let you bomb me

Go get 'em! Wish I could be there. Have so much fun! Your Special Forces will do great!

So I went 4-3, all losses were super close. List is very good, but it simply doesn't crush people. In order to have success in this meta you gotta be able to 100-0 people that you should win against and win every match up that's considered close. I'll have a full write up later. Got one other build up my sleeve that I've been tweaking in my head this last weekend. Just beat the girl that went 7-0 first day at Kashyyyk with it, so stay tuned for my next thread.

Battle Report for Kashyyyk

First Round:

Countess Ryad + Push the Limit + TIE/x7 + Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (36)
“Omega Leader” + Comm Relay + Juke (26)
Imperial Trainee + Adaptive Ailerons + Lightweight Frame (19)
Imperial Trainee + Adaptive Ailerons + Lightweight Frame (19)
Scary good squad. The game was decided in the first round of combat. I was 1 hit point shy of eliminating Ryad and could barely not get it done with two pointless crits onto her. He proceeded to take out the shuttle that same round. Because I couldn't finish her off Inquisitor was in a really bad spot and proceeded to die next round. So after 2 rounds of engagement is was my full health Backdraft versus 1 health Ryad, full health OL, and two strikers. Backdraft was a boss and took out both Ryad and the two strikers while still having full health, but OL shuts down every single upgrade and his pilot ability so he couldn't get it done. Really fun game! (0-1)
Second Round:
Chewbacca (52) - YT-1300
Calculation (1), Kyle Katarn (3), Recon Specialist (3), Millennium Falcon (1), Smuggling Compartment (0), Glitterstim (2)

Wild Space Fringer (48) - YT-2400
Heavy Laser Cannon (7), Cluster Missiles (4), Jan Ors (2), Outrider (5), Guidance Chips (0)
I personally know this player and so I knew I had the advantage list wise and skill wise. Great guy and always fun to play him. He was able to kill Yorr though but I killed both ships pretty fast. (1-1)
Third Round:

Binayre Pirate (13) - Z-95 Headhunter
Black Market Slicer Tools (1)

Syndicate Thug (25) - Y-Wing
Twin Laser Turret (6), Unhinged Astromech (1)

Syndicate Thug (26) - Y-Wing
Twin Laser Turret (6), R4 Agromech (2)

Fenn Rau (34) - Protectorate Starfighter
Push The Limit (3), Concord Dawn Protector (1), Autothrusters (2)
Fenn scared me in this match up and I saved him for last versus both Backdraft and Inquisitor. It was just a matter of time of trapping him and making sure Backdraft would die, so if anything I would win on points. (2-1)
Fourth Round:
Kanan Jarrus + Ghost + Fire-Control System + Twin Laser Turret + Recon Specialist + Rey + Tactical Jammer (52)
Biggs Darklighter + R2-D2 + Integrated Astromech (29)
“Zeb” Orrelios + "Chopper" (18)
Yeah, Backdraft does not do good against double tapping TLT's... He lost a bunch of health early and Inquisitor had to do a lot of the work. But with Kanan's ability it made his ability pretty worthless. Either way though the game was decided when he didn't chase Backdraft and switched to focus on Inquisitor. I tried baiting him to follow me. He didn't and Backdraft was too far out of the fight. It went to time with 2 health left on the Ghost and Backdraft was a centimeter away from firing at him and couldn't barrel to get the shot. Heart breaking loss. Great game though. (2-2)
Fifth Round:

"Quickdraw" (37) - TIE/SF Fighter
Expertise (4), Fire Control System (2), Special Ops Training (0), Lightweight Frame (2)

Rear Admiral Chiraneau (63) - VT-49 Decimator
Predator (3), Kylo Ren (3), Mercenary Copilot (2), Gunner (5), Engine Upgrade (4)
I had this game in the bag, but for some reason I didn't think he had Gunner and Backdraft died when he had a range 1 shot at RAC and a shot out the back at Quickdraw. I was so mad at myself. Still won after that with some great play by my shuttle and Inquisitor getting PS0 crit from Kylo actually helped me block RAC onto rocks allowing my shuttle to get some good shots at him. (3-2)
Sixth Round:
Captain Rex (14)
Jess Pava + R2-D6 + Integrated Astromech + Swarm Tactics (28)
Wedge Antilles + R5 Astromech + Swarm Tactics + Integrated Astromech (32)
Biggs Darklighter + R4-D6 + Integrated Astromech (26)
This player seemed kinda salty before hand and after listening to Mynock just now and Ryan Farmer playing him too it was probably because he was 3-0 and just lost the last 2. I loved the squad synergy, but he made some questionable moves that didn't account for my repositioning. He could had blocked Inquisitor or tried to, but instead decided on unmodified K-turns that wouldn't result in anything and proceeded to blame dice. I won. (4-2)
Seventh Round:
Parattani...
Very good player. I had only played this match up once before. I had the opportunity to kill Manaroo within two rounds and was again 1/2 hit points short and hurt me. Then I had 3-4 chances to hit Fenn at Range 2 instead of hitting Assajj at Range 1 and should have just focused on Assajj, but tried getting lucky and failed. I was also kinda mad that I forgot to FCS on the first engagement and asked shortly after the attack, before dials and just after his Assajj attacked and he said no because "I forgot so many missed opportunities my last game that I'm not gonna let you". I don't mind if someone says no, but just because your last opponent was a jerk to you shouldn't be the deciding factor. It just annoyed me that that was his reason. Anyways, I made a pretty good effort, but couldn't get it done. (4-3)

Going to be updating the list to the current QuickDraw, Inquisitor, Yorr version that’s been winning a ton of events. Time to bring this back out!
