Activations (Basic) + Why the Gr-75 Medium Transport Doesn't Suck

Ex:

Raider ISD-2

TRC TRC TRC

Lifeboat

Everyone is outside of Red Range.

1. If Imps go first, Raider moves.

2. Lifeboat moves.

3. ISD-2 moves into Red Range.

4. A round of shooting from 3x TRC from Red Range.

5. Next round, hopefully ISD-2 has Gunnery and get to shoot at 2 TRC, but now moves into Blue Range.

6. ISD-2 takes shooting from 3x TRC from Blue Range.

1. If Rebs move first, Lifeboat moves.

2. Raider moves into Red Range.

3. TRC on left shoots at Raider at Red Range.

4. ISD-2 shoots at TRC on left and moves into Red Range of the other two TRC.

5. A round of shooting from 2x TRC from Red Range.

6. Next round begins TRC on left shoots ISD-2 at Blue Range and then scoots to back arc.

7. Raider moves.

8. Lifeboat moves.

9. Hopefully, ISD-2 has Gunnery to get to at TRC but now moves into Blue Range.

10. ISD-2 takes shooting from 2x TRC from Blue Range.

I simplified ranges etc for ease of discussion.

After all the talk of how hard it is to illustrate the nuance of activation order I think you did an awesome job of illustrating it. Keep up the good work IceQube.

I'm not sure anyone who's played with them would say GR-75 Medium Transports suck :P

I think the medium transport is the better of the two.

Pretty sure weve all figured Bright Hope is the **** by now :P

That's a good question!

Tell you what, I used to think flotillas being used for activation advantage was simply not good enough. I will admit I was wrong. But my thought experiment is geared for new players... the answer isn't obvious - at least that's what I think.

well, my opinion on flotillas is pretty well known. We've asked for a way for big ships to pass their turn, FFG gave us flotillas for that...

It would actually take three rounds of shooting from the Y-Wings to take out the TRC90. It take about two activations of a TRC90 with CF commands to drop a flotilla between shooting and one ram. A lot depends on who is activating first and positions but it actually an extremely close run thing.

The CR90 isn't completely shut down by the 11-point A-wing that the other guy is already bringing anyway, though.

A more interesting question is what ways is the combat version worth it over the medium transport? 18 points for an activation, with a handful of other passive (I might add) bonuses to the squadron game is a huge advantage, and another knock against big ship play (out-activations to wait for the optimal strike moment, forever blockers without accuracy present, etx).

Well, it brings a blue anti-squad dice instead of black, which can be rerolled by a nearby Torynn, for one. It also gives you the chance to do some long range plinking with the red bow shot.

Oops, yeah, you're right. I'm at work and can only partially see the cards right now. But yeah, the Antisquadron firepower is about the only reason I could see paying for the more expensive flotilla.

I enjoy throwing 2 Blacks to Medium Range with Sato and surprising people :D

Remember that is really is only a 3 point difference. It should be almost equal. If it makes you feel any better though most of the times I've run it the TRC90 comes out ahead.
