Pure Sabacc as Swarm Leader?

By elijahdprophet, in X-Wing Squad Lists

What do y'all think about this list? It seems like Sabacc could be a pretty brutal 3rd shot after the Ds force token use with Juke.

  • 99 points
  • “Pure Sabacc” [swarm Leader, Adaptive Ailerons, Lightweight Frame] (27)
  • Maarek Stele [Juke, TIE/x7] (35)
  • Rexler Brath [Juke, TIE/x7] (37)

Stele and Brath both load an evade with x7, attack at 8 and 7 with Juke, then Sabacc strips their evades for a 6 dice primary. LWF potentially saves his ability for a second round, and with as many dice as he is throwing he can evade every round for additional defense.

Generally, when throwing that many dice, you want mods to make them stick

Nothing sadder than throwing a fistful of Focus with no token to spend. Plus, Focus can be used defensively if needed...

Still, it's a fairly intimidating list.

A smart opponent would just focus fire on Sabacc first, and probably vaporize him before he even gets to roll those 6 dice.

And ignore 2 X7 Defenders?

Actually yeah. Sabacc is the weak link in the list. Shooting at a lower PS, without the same survivability as the x7's means the sooner you can take him out the better off you'll be. The x7's stay just as scary throughout the fight, and a smart opponent will shoot the big gun first anyways.

I usually have lower PS, and lots of guns. If I were facing this squad, I would put two damage on "Pure Sabacc", and then turn my attention to the defenders. That strips one die from "Pure Sabacc", and then you have the joy of hunting regular, olden day TIE defenders. As mentioned, "Pure Sabacc's" Swarm Leader is a lot less scary without any hope of rerolls.

...Nah I'd leave "Pure Sabacc" alone as long as possible to take out at least one defender. If "Pure Sabacc" is half dead, you don't switch targets. Again, this is coming from the point of view of a 5-ship Imperial squad, which I often run. I think this squad could do some serious damage and be loads of fun, but I probably wouldn't run it.

P. S. My own version has the same "Pure Sabacc", but instead of TIE defenders it has "Backstabber", "Dark Curse", "Night Beast", "Chaser", and an Academy Pilot. Again, 5+ -ship Imperial squads - I love 'em! I think your squad would win because your TIE defenders would destroy my "Pure Sabacc" before it had a chance to fire. I'm thinking Darth Vader may make a better Swarm Leader.

Yes.

Absolutely.

3 dice with Juke is WAY less painful than 5 or 6 dice with a focus token.

But I think Sabacc with Swarm Leader is always going to be iffy simply because of the lack of rerolls. You'll be way better off putting Lone Wolf or Predator on him.

I had the same idea but run Sabbac with two Juking X7 Glaives. All PS 6, you can spend the tokens on juke and then dump them into a Swarm Leader attack.

Seems awesome to me but then you would actually just be running two juking X7 Glaives with Biggs Darklighter when faces with a higher PS opponent. Your TIE Striker can do what now? Lolnope. Focus fire!

May I suggest something kind of different. Everyone is ready for defenders, but I understand the strategy your going for, you want pure sabacc to be the bait, if you don't get rid of him, he will be a pain, if you do, you ignored the real threat

How about this
