Unrealized Tourney Prizes

By daimaru, in Legend of the Five Rings: The Card Game

I am hoping FFG is aware of them - that there are plenty of storyline prizes that did not get realized.

But I'm curious if they would (at least think it is wise to) pursue them and how they would implement them, especially with the latest development in the story (with Rokugan relocating and all).

These tourney prizes are not only impacts to the storyline but creation of cards as well.

What do you think are important tourney prizes that were missed out (and could possibly make a huge impact to the story)?

I think it would be a bad idea. We have no idea where FFG wants to pick up the storyline, or if they want to pick it up at all.

There was a document with all outstanding storyline/card prizes that was, presumably, passed along to FFG along with all the other L5R related work. As someone with both outstanding storyline picks and a card due, I'd obviously be happy if they did choose to 'honour' those selections, but I'm also fine with a line being drawn under the AEG era and FFG moving forward with a clean slate.

It's also worth noting that card 'acknowledgment', as we saw frequently in the game previously, doesn't really exist in FFG games currently. Card designs, a prize only offered in L5R as the highest level of Stronghold Store reward, is something most FFG games feature, but is reserved for a much higher level of competition - essentially Continental Championships and upwards.

I think it would be a bad idea. We have no idea where FFG wants to pick up the storyline, or if they want to pick it up at all.

XD

I suspect you're in the minority on that one.

There's always...

To my knowledge, some unawarded story prizes are so old that the players and characters who've won them aren't around anymore, and the modern players would have little to no idea why the prizes would matter in a current storyline.

Bear in mind, too, that the last couple rounds of story wins were divisive, and FFG may well not want to wade through that as they're reestablishing the brand.

But ther're also story prizes connected with really, really young Rokugan people in nonreleased expansions. So this time jump (in any) had to be huge to erase them or memory about them.

Oh, I'm not arguing an all-or-nothing approach here. I'm just cautioning that it's not entirely reasonable to expect the full list of MIA prizes to get awarded, and that even some of the more recent ones, FFG may consider too volatile to be worth touching.

Then again, since it's not even clear if FFG is going to keep any of the story at all, it's anyone's guess.

Sure, even AEG skipped lot of story prizes.
