If I join another players campaign, do I earn those experience points and add it to my own character? I would assume that anything stated as "lead investigator" would apply to the person I've joined. I've already competed Night of the Zealots and I only joined my friend for "The Gathering".

No, according to the rule book, when players join a campaign they do so with no starting XP and just the basic deck requirements.
I'm confused. The Gathering is the first scenario of Night of the Zealot, so you should all be starting the campaign together anyway. That means none of you have any experience. What exactly are you asking about?
Edited by rsdockeryIt sounds like the they started their own game, maybe played a scenario or two, and now want to jump in to their friends The Gathering

Sort of. I beat the first campaign, and I want to play this game alone and experience the story and difficulty alone, though I'm not opposed to playing with someone. We just got the core set and Dunwich delivered at the store I work at today and my boss wanted to learn, so I played the first part with him.
So it's a no then? That's all good.
I still don't quite understand what you're asking. You played the entire Night of the Zealot - that's all 3 campaigns - solo; and now your boss wants to do the same and you want to join him?
That's a brand new campaign for you. Within a single "campaign", you will play a specific set of scenarios in a specific order (with some accounting for alterations based off the Campaign Rules). Once you've completed, that story is done, over. If you wanted to play that same campaign again from the beginning, you are essentially starting a new story and will need to completely reset your Investigator.
Is that what you're asking?

Yes. I don't want to continue the campaign with him, I just wanted to play the "The Gathering" with him so I can show him how the game works and introduce him to it. If he wanted to continue from there, is that okay if he continues without me?

Yes, absolutely. There's no reason an Investigator can't drop out.
