Apology to the community at large

By Guest, in Star Wars: Armada

Compared to say WH40k, Armada is a bargain. The modes are one thing, but if I added up the cost of rule books, new editions, multiples of models, paints and terrain, I shudder to think.

Speaking to price, as a player for both, it's a wash. The X-wing core set is considerably cheaper, but you really need two of them starting off. Assembling a playable 100pt list would require both, and at least one or two further expansions for each side.

Armada only requires the single core set, really, and again one or two expansions for either side to flesh out a 400pt list.

At this point, Armada is still a fair bit more expensive than X-Wing, but beyond the first lists, as you progress into the game and start seeking new mechanics, ships, cards, and styles, X-wing takes a sharp spike upwards, where Armada stays reasonably flat. A decent collection of both factions in Armada is probably only close to a midsized X-wing collection for a single faction at this stage.

X-wing's big selling point is the diversity of ships available. The problem there is it dilutes what you can do with some of those ships sometimes. It also means there's certain killer combos or ship types you simply can't ignore.

Armada tends to do a whole lot more with a whole lot less. There's a lot more substance and depth there, and at a far lower overall cost.

Edit: actually, by way of example, since both game waves arrived at pretty much the same time:

Wave 5 of Armada has cost me €115 so far. That's for a Pelta, 2x Kittens, and a pack of each squadrons. That's probably all I'll be spending on it. Maybe another Imp Squadrons II later, but certainly I'm set for a few months.

Wave 10 of X-wing has cost me €100 so far, and only two of the FIVE ships have even gone on sale yet. There's still a hefty sized large base ship that'll sink €40 by itself, not to mention two further ships that are begging to be run in pairs.

Not only am I home and hosed on Wave 5 for what should be about half the price of Wave 10, I'm far more likely to get my money's worth in play time with the Armada stuff. X-wing has a notoriously cruel meta that really doesn't promote using a lot of the niche ships they actually come out with. It's a shame, but it's the way of things. Meanwhile, Armada actively promotes my ridiculous carry on of swarming Raiders with new upgrades.

Well I am glad that is settled. Who's turn is it? I have lost track.

The fact that people spend the time to write such long and thoughtful posts to this obvious troll gives me massive faith in this community.

In my opinion the OP is on a mission to get banned from this forum, and then go brag and try to make friends on another forum (X-Wing???).

All I can hope for is that Disney and FFG can carry on after the open and shut case this guys fake lawyer brings, due to people being mean to him on the Internet...

Ok. 40k is my game. Played since 1994. Armada is as like 40k as a Spark is like a high performance, modded Stingray.

It's why I put my 5 companies of Space Marines, 2 Titans, HH Iron Hand Robot Maniple, Enclave Tau and more on the shelf for a bit. 40k requires constant rules maintenance, suffers from whacky imbalances, has almost no real rules support, and costs quite a bit to stay current.

Armada is a much cleaner, has exponentially better support (rules, relations, tournaments), a much tighter ruleset, and any one of my 40k armies (just the stuff on the table for 1 battle) would buy a couple copies of every Armada expansion and then some (both sides).

I'll go back to 40k someday (next rules cycle), but I'll never leave Armada now that I've found it.

You missed the additional room on your house you need to play/store it in

I have 20,000 points of Eldar (all types), up to and including a pair of scout titans. I haven't been able to get a game in without someone complaining for 3-4 years. At the moment it's just sitting in plastic storage crates in another country, waiting for the time 40k becomes possible again. I have a huge IA and Armada collection, and both of them fit in a single miniatures case each, and no-one has complained after any game I have ever played with either system.

I am sorry for yesterday.

I am sorry for yesterday.

Slight explanation for ranting towards the end. I received a pm from a fellow poster saying that he sympathized with my feeling and that some of the posters giving me grief were FFG employees. I lost it as anyone who has spent lots of money on a company's product and feels rejected by that company and disrespected would feel. At this I just give up on trying to figure out what it going on and have decided I might rethink playing games like this and move into more cooperative style games from now on.

What a pointless thread, as I'm have no idea what your poorly attempting to apologize for. Sounds like whining about your speculations about who replies to your thread.
