I'm really bummed out ...but inspired at the same time. (Cheating Story)

By dewbie420, in X-Wing Off-Topic

I just learned that my 'buddy' that has been playing casual games and practicing for tournaments with me for 2 months had only ONE Direct Hit in his damage deck and replaced the missing ones with other "mild" Crits from his second core set d-deck.

I know this is a very isolated incident that very few players of table top games experience. I know sometimes friends cheat against friends- I used to try and cheat with video games back in the 1980's ...but never like this.

After approx. 19 games we played- I only won 3 times. He only drew 2 DH's the whole span of games(while I drew the usual "way too many"). I even jokingly asked if he had any direct hits at all... we would laugh. ha-ha!

Well I finally called him on it and grabbed his deck, started counting without looking at the face side- he was cool about that. Then I flipped em over and looked for a direct hit and couldn't find one at first. He then grabs the deck and pulls one out saying "See!, I can't believe you would stoop to counting my deck." as he makes a sad face. I felt kinda guilty but still asked "can you just show me the rest of the direct hits and I'll buy you beer [legal in my state]." He slumped his shoulders and grabbed his Plano box, opened it and pulled out several direct hits stashed under some foam bits. I really felt heartbroken. I thought we were both gonna start crying (TOTAL dorks).

So I packed my gear and left. I decided last night to always count my opponents cards face up and present my deck as well, ONLY AT TOURNAMENTS. (I'll never ask a friend to show their deck now- not to ruin the chance to get in some regular games. I think the dude that cheated me is a one of kind a-hole.)

But anyway, I figured that I just might be a better player than I have led myself to believe BUT I just may be a horrible player, only winning 10% of my games... and I have fun.

In my opinion to share damage cards and dices is a very healthy measure to prevent cheating. Sonr people say "nobody touch my fices" but the most gallant players I used to play with shared components. My dices or yours...

Many years ago I found one ASL player who purchased loaded d6 dices in tbe pre internet era. No X wing player with suspicious dices in my crosshairs but...beware

Weird behaviour from a friend. When I play with my friends we just share one damage deck.

Since this was the OT I thought this was going to read like a penthouse forums letter.

Same here. We don't share dice, but spend an equal amount of time swearing at our personal set, so it's pretty obvious no one's are loaded :P
