... Should I buy it....?

By Blail Blerg, in Star Wars: Armada

I really want another Home One and a 2nd Imperial fighters 1 set for more Bombers...

But will I really use that 2nd Home One? It has a good shape for a paint job I want to do.. but I'm afraid that might make me use my first Home One less.

I love Ackbar and potato broadsides though.

Have you ever needed more than 3 Imp fighters 1 other than Bombers? I usually proxy.

But it seems like most Rhymerballs want like 4 or 5 Bombers.
What else is in there that is really needed in multiples?

No, two Liberties are good to have but Home One is pretty much a one ship buy.

Paint alone is worth it if you've got a good'n. As for Imperials, I really do like the additional interceptors and bombers (as for the advanced, they can go suck a lemon... see, I'm nice). The Imperial squadrons might be worth it, but as for the Home One.... lets put it like this: is there one upgrade you reaaaaaally like in addition to the paint job? If you can do that, you can probably justify it, mate.

I rather like Support Officers myself. 3 Imps and 2 H1 is okay-ish... 4 Imp and 3 H1 is a be a bit much unless you're seriously into the +400 club.

Sigh, there isn't a single upgrade in need from it.

Ok, yeah, it looks like the only mass fighter I really want is bombers, and I shouldn't pay 20 bucks for that.

Also paint job wise, do you ever feel sorry for the ones you didn't do as good of a job on, or that you like one more than the other?

I use two of those mc80s on occasion but I only play casually.

What lists?

Anyone else want to show some lists?

I'll post my secret weapon soon. See if anyone likes it enough to comment on its long term competitive viability.

If I'm not happy.... 1 minute, 1 day, 1 year after I've painted something... It goes in the Simple Green and I start again.

I refuse to look at something I regret, in that department.

Oh, I've kept models over the year as learning examples from time to time - even the first model I ever painted....

But I generally refuse to be unhappy.

Yes, you should.

There argument solved, go buy it and enjoy it.

Hmmm, that's a problem.... thought about maybe looking into a bit shop for it? Or splitting a pack with a local that might be on the fence with it? (I know I'm the sort to want Tie fighters and Interceptors, but at the point of throwing advanced over my shoulder and bombers, just sorta staring at them funny).

As for the paint job.... In the Green! -follows Drassy in a chorus of the grand Armada carol- I just repainted about half of my Imp fighters, after all!

Green is some sort of paint remover?

I do think that's smart, but at the same time, I've been trying to move away from total repaints because I think my skill ends up detracting from the model's details and not having an eye for how to paint small details.

Redoing a whole Home One sounds daunting.

Green is some sort of paint remover?

Yes. Simple Green is a Cleanser/Degreaser (often bought in bulk for use in power washers cleaning concrete driveways), but it works to strip most acrylic and enamel paints from models... A good side effect is it doesn't do much - if anything - to the baked on latex-based FFG original paint.

So yes, unhappy with a paint, I force myself to Redo it. If I don't, I'm just going to keep looking at it and being unhappy, and I have enough things that make me unhappy.

Are you thinking about running/participating in a Correlian Conflict campaign?

Between that and your paint job idea I'd say, absolutely, get another MC80.

Two fat points fortresses can be pretty good for some of those objectives.

With CC out, it doesn't hurt to have another fighter pack for all the new unique squadrons.

Did not read any of this thread except the title.

Yes

Edit - if you usually proxy, I guess it doesn't matter. I love my double sets of all Squadron packs, though!

Since I prime my fighter bases black, I don't like having to change out my cardboard to play uniques, so I bought 1 of each fighter set in order to accommodate the CC fighters. The only down side? I have to buy more shelving for my addiction hobby.

As far as running two MC80 Home Ones? I have done it, I was told never to do it again (you might find some posts about Moodswing and his infamous Snackbar space pickles, truly awful fleet), but with the changes since wave 3 I think there are better builds out there now for running two. And honestly I think if you are unhappy with a paintjob, the Simple Green is the best way to go. If you didn't paint the first coats too heavy (AVVERT YOUR EYES, DRAS!) you could try priming over the existing lightly. The only down side is that ship has a lot of detail so you might lose some of that. If it's airbrush, you should be able to paint over it I think.

I can't imagine 2 making a viable list, not an expert, but just looking at base cost, reduced activation, speed and maneuverability, just size (trying to stay in the fight and out of each others way) .. I mean its a game of capital ships, but Amrada is about a whole lot more then putting muscle on the table. Position is everything in this game or at least close to it and MC80's are practically stationary.

I do agree that two 2 Battle Cruiser are a lot more interesting, you have speed 3 so you can stay in motion, its a tiny bit cheaper but just enough to leave some options in a list.

I think the thing I don't like about the MC80 in general is that it just feels... I don't know, immobile. Im sure its just my personal tastes coming through but I find it hard to justify to run 1 let alone 2.

Yes! The answer to this question is always yes. There is no such thing as too many ships one can buy :D

Actually there is. When they sit sadly for 6months literally with no play. =(.

Breaks my poor plastic heart.
