Punching up Strikeforce: Shantipole

By Desslok, in Star Wars: Age of Rebellion RPG

Ah, nothing like setting up a topic about a 25 year old game from another company entirely. :)

Anyway, inspired by Kyla's awesome conversion I thought I would drag out my old copy of Shantipole and drop it on my players this weekend. It's not a bad game, especially considering the era it was written, but it is a little basic - Fight some TIE fighters, have a fight, fly to this other place, sneak around, have another fight, fight more TIE fighters, fly away and roll credits.

I'm going to change some names and characters around to integrate it into the current campaign some and tweak it a bit for neo-cannon (Hasta la vista, Ackbar and B-Wings) and I've got an idea to link it to Tatooine Manhunt - more continuity between the two games than an actual continuation of the story - but that's about it. I thought I'd ask for ideas about punching the game up a touch and adding some wrinkles.

I think that putting in Ackbar as manging director of the B-Wing project (i.e. turning the prototype we see in Rebels into a mass produced machine) still makes perfect sense, and doesn't violate the new canon too much.

Otherwise what are you going to have Shantipole produce? But I love the idea of tying it to tatooine manhunt...maybe Adar Tallon could then become the Orson Krennic of the rebellion.....building whatever you want.

Add Bruce Lee's clone army.

Well, in this instance, I'm swapping Ackbar for a the member of a royal house that's financing the project. He'll have ties to the previous game we played, so it'll have more brand recognition than throwing in someone from the movies (cool as that is).

Well, we don't know anything about the H-Wing, do we?

Oooh, that's a solid idea. How I was going to tie them was through the bad guy. The Capital ship that the rebels damage at the end of Shantipole was going to be the one in drydock at the start of Manhunt - but the Tallon thing would work too!

Combine both and have the ship being in drydock and Tallon actually being the Orson Krennic of the rebellion hidden on Tatooine and supervising advanced projects to counter the Empire superwepons or produce new and seriously improved fighers or battleships (how about this http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Shell-cracker_prototype? if your players haven't yet stoilen from the empire in a previous adventure.....if they have, he is perfecting it and working on a stygium crystals cloaking device). That's why the Empire wants him enough to hire lots of bounty hunters.
