What are the current top lists floating around for each faction?
Current top lists?
Hey, I'm just starting out (as well?) - I don't even have my ships yet! - but I found this series of blog posts that helped me understand the metagame much better. They're on a blog called That's No Moon:
http://www.thatsnomoon.info. Just scroll down a little, or here's the link to the last article in the series, and you can follow the links to the other three:
http://www.thatsnomoon.info/blog/2016-x-wing-worlds-squads-part-4
It's a series of four articles that looks at the top four squadrons of the World Championship in November: Dengaroo, featuring Dengar and Manaroo, Rebel Regen, featuring Corran Horn and Miranda Doni, Palp Aces, featuring a Lambda-class Shuttle with Emperor Palpatine aboard and two ace pilots (in this case Omega Leader and Colonel Vessery), and Fat Han, featuring Han Solo and Jake Farrell.
I've gathered that the most popular squadron right now is a variation of Palp Aces called Commonwealth Defenders (love the name), which runs a Palpmobile Lambda-class Shuttle and TIE Defender pilots Colonel Vessery and Countess Ryad.
Hope this helps!
Edited by TheHumanHydraMynock Squadron Podcast just covered this very topic.
The meta is pretty much wide open (as long as you have some way of having better than 2 die primary). If I were to narrow down to the most used lists currently I would say:
Scum: Attani Mind-link. Dengaroo.
Empire: Defenders. Palpatine.
Rebels: Regen. Bombs.
So not exactly lists, sure. Almost every Squad out there has pieces of that list included, or is teched against something(s) on that list.

Pretty much this.
Since U-boats disappeared there seems to be a lot of two-ship builds or at least fat turrets running around (i.e. dash, falcon, caster, scout, etc).
The huge range of upgrades around seems to have focussed builds on 2 or 3 ship lists designed to maximise the synergies between their different ships.
Swarms had a revival with Crackshot but seem to have fallen behind the curve again as most competitive lists have sufficient damage mitigation included that ships with only 2 red dice will struggle to push damage through fast enough before they are wiped out.
