Yet another "help the new guy" thread

By MashedBROTATOES, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hey dudes, I just recently got into xwing and I absolutely love it. I'm playing up at my store for the first time next month, and I'd like some help on a solid list. My collection so far is blue core, red core, millennium falcon, t70, A wing, imperial aces, and a B wing. I don't mind getting other ships to help make a list. I'm mainly looking at either rebels or imperial, not really interested in scum. What can I throw together that's competitive, but not necessarily top tier?

Here's a fun build that should work out for you.

POE HAN

100 points

PILOTS

Poe Dameron (PS8 Version) (37)
T-70 X-Wing (31), R2-D2 (4), Weapons Guidance (2)

Han Solo (63)
YT-1300 (46), Determination (1), Chewbacca (4), Luke Skywalker (7), Millennium Falcon (Evade Version) (1), Engine Upgrade (4)

With Poe you can take the focus as your action, use his ability to change one focus result to a hit and then spend the focus (if needed) to change a blank to a hit with Weapons Guidance.
Now on to Han. You can use his ability to re-roll all the results if you don't like it, then if it doesn't hit you can trigger Luke to use your primary attack again and if you don't like that you may re-roll all your results with Han's ability again. Chewy will let you discard a direct hit if need be and determination lets you discard pilot specific critical damage cards.
This build lets you soak up some hits with the YT-1300 and then get some consistent damage in with Poe plus regenerate some shields with R2-D2.
Good luck and fly casual.

Weapons guidance on Poe for me is a bit situational in that you only really want to use it when out or arcs as otherwise you won't have the token for defence which is really useful is being shot at by more than one ship.

I'd be tempted to switch it out for VI and then keep the one point initiative bid. Also remember to add Integrated Astromech to Poe. You wouldn't really want to use it until the last possible moment bit it's an extra hit point for free

I agree with you that weapons guidance is situational but I've been noticing that my Poe is surviving to the end of the game and I've been using the weapons guidance for end game shots when I need to just get someone off the board.

My ideal build for Poe for most squads is VI and autothrusters with PTL. But since autothrusters isn't an option, I opted for the weapons guidance. Now if Mashed wants to try and get silly he/she could replace R2-D2 and weapons guidance with BB-8 and PTL. I loved flying that when I first started because it makes you learn the order of operations for the activation phase, which is pretty important.

All of these are awesome suggestions!
