What happened to coins?

Oddly enough - the thing I'm most annoyed about is the lack of promotional poster. Something I could hang in my FLGS to announce the next tournament was incredibly useful.

That said, the guys that run my FLGS are really happy about the pack size reduction. :)

I miss the posters as well, I have laminated one and you can write on it with dry erase markers. It works quite well.

There was a pretty big applause last year at wither gencon or origins (gencon) I believe when they said they weren't doing coins anymore. I hated the coins they were just dumb. Only practical use I could think of was to use them for stoning FFG OP members to death for terrible faqs, pathetic artwork choices, and lack luster prize support. Glad to see them gone and hope they never come back. Sold most of mine. Did get a top 4 ones for Regionals in x wing and armada which was cool for about 10 seconds.

Sounds like you've got some serious issues which need resolving. I suggest seeking counselling as soon as humanly possible. And avoiding the internet.

I don't get why people keep saying coins have no practical use. They are not supposed to. They are medals, only better looking. Or trophies that don't take up a lot of space.

Bring back the coins!

I liked the coins. I kept one of each and sold the rest, but I liked them. (For comparison, I disliked the medals.) I'm disappointed the coins aren't in the kits. (Have kits also been reduced from four per year to three, or were they always three?)

It's not that they are useful -- although I do use one as a card protector when playing poker -- but rather that they are solid and high quality. I would never use mine for shield tokens -- who wants to carry that much weight? -- but it mildly amuses me when people do.

I bet the people applauding were the ones who never got any coins.

They joined their patch brethren in prize support heaven...

and the card boxes.....maybe those cardboards rest in peace

As an event organiser at my FLGS, I am actually pretty okay with the downsizing of the kits. Storing said kits was a bit of a space nightmare and the new packs are nice and compact.

Plus alt art prize support for the organiser is something I am very pleased about given how I never get to play in tournaments and events because I am always running the event and the stream from behind the scenes. Very frustrating from someone who is very much a collector when it comes to alt art cards, I'd have to go to Ebay and I'd find stupidly inflated prices that cost as much if not more than the **** kit itself! So I am very pleased and eagerly awaiting to get my Ketsu.

Our store does order multiple kits as our X-Wing community events are massive usually bringing 20 - 30+ people from all around so I will take the first one, but the remaining kits will go into my curio promo cabinet to be used on a rainy day as extra tournament support for events like regionals and other large scale events we run.

I was concerned originally that the kit got smaller. However, as some people have pointed out, it's pretty much the same as the original kits.

I think the kits are going to four per year and they were three. The first one was called quarter one for the store kit.

They are, the logo for the quarter kits is a 17 with 4 corner segments that make up a square box around it. The first (or upper left) box is filled in on both the alt art cards.

This is something I also like, it fits perfectly with our stores format: One X-Wing tournament a month in a 3 month rotation fo Standard, Hangar Bay, and Escalation. This means we can provide different support for each one throughout the year.

Got to see one of the prize packs for this quarter at the local shop as we started planning the next tournament... it's... sadly disappointing compared to past packs. I mean, I'm glad they still exist, but it got downsized a lot.

The folders and posters were pretty useless I guess, but one of the players liked collecting them. The reduction in the amount of tokens sucks. And the disappearance of the coins is a bit lame too. The event organizer was glad that there was a third pilot card included for organizers or TOs or whoever the rules specified should get it. I would hope that the kit was at least a bit cheaper than previous kits, but I doubt it. Makes me wonder if the store championship kits will get scaled back as well...

I'm bummed that I was never able to win a coin. It would have been quite a while before I would have won one though, if ever. So they probably would have quit producing them before I was able to get one.

I do own a coin, I think it is last year's store championship coin, the one with a rebel logo on one side and the imperial cog on the other? I picked it up on eBay just because I love the imperial cog and figured it would go well with all of my other merch that has the imperial logo on it. I don't pull it out or flash it around at events and certainly have never tried to pass it off like I won it. It would have been nice to have one that I had won though.

They do have a practical use.

You use them instead of the initiative token on the Force Awakens set.

And you use them to call heads or tails when determining initiative in the first place.

That is a great idea! I've still got one from a Summer kit I can probably get laminated.

While I quite liked the coins, due to their weight, I'd never use one to determine initiative.

I like my plastic spaceships in one piece. :)

Yeah, it goes without saying nit to toss them in the middle of your ships...

some one used up all the credits
