Had a thought that should generate debate: what about bthe idea of commanders transferring between ships? Or leaving their post and jumping into a fighter (to destroy them ship to ship). I dig the idea of a commander ditching a doomed ship and scratching gravel to the closest friendly. That would make for an interesting sub objective during the game.
Transferring Commanders
Curious what everyone thinks.
Save it for scenario or campaign play but keep it far away from competitive tables.
You could work it with the "Capture the VIP" objective.
When your Flagship is destroyed deploy an objective marker representing your leader. Until he's aboard another friendly ship you don't get his effect.
There is a version of the lambda shuttle on KDY that features this effect. Transferring an admiral to the shuttle within distance 1 or so, and later hand it over to another ship at similar distance. The only problem is that outside of any objective or scenario it will not see too much use during the regular games, as people found quite good ways to hide their admirals from doom so far.. but it could work well in a campaign of cause!
I think it is a mechanic that could be added to competitive play, but you'd have to pay for the ability.
Upgraded Esacape Pods:
Defensive Retrofit (Modification) 10 points
When this ship is destroyed, you may move your Commander to another friendly ship at distance 1 and continue to use Commander abilities, otherwise Commander abilities end.
Distance one is REALLY close for ships to be. For that price i'd say close, as often youre going to have a ship sitting at close-medium so you'd have to tweak your flight a bit more.
Never checked but im pretty sure ive never been distance1 from my own ships except round1.
Could be a neat mechanic/upgrade.
Escape Pods: 4 points Defensive Retrofit.
When this ship is destroyed, place an objective token at range 1 of this ship before it is removed from the table. Set aside 1 officer and your commander attached to this ship. When a friendly ship moves at range 1 of the objective token, you may add the officer and commander to the ship. If you already have an officer attached, you may discard one and use the other. If an enemy ship moves at range 1 of the token, remove the objective token. The set aside upgrades are destroyed. A commander set aside this way does not provide their effect to the fleet until attached to a friendly ship.
Someone can make it shorter, but that's my first pass at it.

I never quite forgot this. Being able to deploy a Lambda or HWK with your commander on board would be cool. Especially if it triggers when your flagship is destroyed.

I went with D1 as it's about the same as close range (maybe I should have just said Close), and that's where ordnance (black dice) work. Now treating an escape pod like an assault missile might be hard on the Admiral, but desperate times call for desperate measures ![]()
Earlier this week I had four ships in a staggered echelon each within D1 of at least 1 or 2 ships.
