How to fly bombing Miranda

By gennataos, in X-Wing

I recently got the K-wing and I'm really struggling with how to fly a bombing Miranda. I've tried Corran and Poe with her and I just suck at it. I think I get the gist...lure ships to chase Miranda, follow behind with the ace and pick off ionized ships (using mainly Conner net and Ion bombs). I've tried getting and alpha strike with her homing misses plus the ace shooting, but that end with her getting focused down then running a lot. Am I doing it wrong and just need more experience? Any advice (or video links!) would be greatly appreciated!

Its usually the lower PS K-Wing pilots that you want to use for bombing, as they can move before most other ships, then Slam/Advanced Slam to drop a bomb directly upon an enemy ship.

As for Miranda, she can be used for bombing, but a lot of people run her with just C-3PO, TLT, and Advanced Slam, having her run around the outside, taking shots when she can, generally outlasting most things by using her ability to recover shields and Slamming to avoiding being shot at.

As for an Alpha Strike Miranda, a guy locally runs her with LRS, Homing Missile, Extra Munitions, TLT, and Recon specialist, leaving him to fire that Homing Missile with 5 dice, a target lock, and a focus. After using the Homing Missiles, he just switches back to kiting TLT-regen Miranda

Hmmm...interesting. I've read so much about a Super Miranda, like from Worlds, though. I'm trying to fly something like that and I clearly don't know how.

One of the biggest things with Miranda is knowing how and when to use SLAM. It turns her into a weird sort of arc dodger, except she doesn't just get out of arcs. She also has the ability to do a pair of 3-speed maneuvers to get out of range, or to SLAM with a maneuver that will intentionally bump another ship, so it either can't shoot her (lower PS) or ends up moving right past her (higher PS). You have to be OK with having rounds where Miranda does nothing but lead the enemy on a merry chase, and then take advantage of them needing to catch up or turn around to sneak in a round or two of TLT fire or drop a bomb on them.

I think I've led some merry chases, but I think I need to get better at deciding between SLAMing or TLTing. I've found large base ships difficult to outrun, particularly if they have EU. I've considered turning into them to try to block, but they're usually accompanied by someone else who can get shots on her and possibly put her down for good.

Fly Miranda like a Super Dash. Do everything you can to avoid being shot, and usually only shoot when no one else can shoot you.

That's probably what I'm doing wrong. I'm not seeking confrontation with her, but maybe I'm not good at predicting my opponent, and thus find myself in confrontation.

Anyone know of any videos of her being flown well?

I've found the counter to that is...

1) Focus fire on Miranda

2) Miranda blows up

i like to use low ps pilots k-wing with Sabine (with advanced SLAM) as a bomber as i can move and plant a mine in their way

  • I look where my opponent is at the moment can I get to a bombing position
  • where will I be after a slam and can I bomb from there
  • what bomb will be most affective and what do I have available
  • can they shoot at me after I have bombed and slammed

then i just go for it

It took me about 5 matches of flying bomber Miranda to understand the SLAM and probably 10 more to realize her full potential. K-Wings take more practice than most other ships.

the guy flying her at worlds was masterful most of the time. the final game was ehh, but he was on the stream at least 2 other times. See if you can get the 2016 worlds on youtube and you will see how it is done. I have played a lot of Miranda, and a lot of bombing warden k-wings. And the wardens are very useful to get the feel of how and when to slam/bomb. I still don't fly bombing Miranda very well. At least not well enough for competition yet. Still need a lot more practice.

I am on my 30ish game and still wouldn't say I have mastered it. She is arguably one of the most difficult ships to master. With that, once mastered she is essentially immortal.

That was really helpful, thanks!

I'll definitely look up more Worlds 2016 streams. I feel I do okay with dropping bombs, it's more what to do...uhm...with everything else. I really don't know when to TLT vs. SLAMing away. Should I always seek to avoid hits, or should I accept a couple hits to hopefully return some and heal one back? I think I fly myself too close to the fray too often. Miranda gets her shields all stripped in most opening salvos, then I'm running in fear of getting crits.

Hmm...can't find any of his other matches on YouTube nor Twitch. :(

thats strange. I remember watching him several times that weekend.

That's a TLT based regenerator. Minelayers tend to be Wardens.

I've done well flying a double K-wing list, both Miranda and a Warden. The key to using Miranda succesfully as a bomber is to see dropping bombs with Miranda as a benefit of the situation you're in, instead of your primary objective. For the PS2 Warden that's different of course. The high PS of Miranda just makes it more difficult, but that is why you bring Homing Missiles on her as wel as primary alpha strike. Use bombs to clean up.
