Two Tanks and a Nimble Fighter

By LifeGain, in X-Wing Squad Lists

For a long time I have been running Omega Leader with Ryad and Vessery and have done pretty well with it. However, I wanted to try something a little different and came up with this list. Let me know what you guys think! All comments and critiques are welcome!

Tie Advanced Prototype (The Inquisitor) 25
Push the Limit 3

Tie/v1 1

Autothrusters 2

Total 31

Tie Defender (Glaive Squadron Pilot) 33

Trick Shot 0
TIE/x7 -2
Twin Ion Engine 1

Total 33

Tie Defender (Colonel Vessery) 35

Veteran Instincts 1
TIE/x7 -2

Twin Ion Engine 1

Total 35

The idea behind this list is to use Vessery's ability to its fullest effect while still having a great late game ace and another ship that is a pain to kill if he is not taken down early. I flew this list (without Trick Shot) against a beefy Miranda and Poe and won on points at the last second (it took one hour for a ship to die). Also, I flew against Omega Leader, Maarek in a Defender, and Ryad. I won that game just barely. One question I have with this list is if I should keep Twin Ion Engine on both defenders, drop it from the Glaive for a two point bid, or drop both and put Juke on the Glaive (losing my initiative bid)? The general consensus is that Juke is really good, but in this list I think it may be better to keep the bid, because in the games I played, moving last helped me get out of trouble on many occasions and also set up shots without taking return fire.

Personally i would:

TIE Avanced Prototype: · The Inquisitor (25)

Push The Limit (3)

Autothrusters (2)

TIE/v1 (1)

TIE Defender: · Colonel Vessery (35)

Veteran Instincts (1)

Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)

TIE/x7 (-2)

TIE Defender: · Countess Ryad (34)

Juke (2)

TIE/x7 (-2)

-- TOTAL ------- 100p. --

Jax can be subbed for the inquisitor and stele can then be subbed for vessery if you like a different flavor.

I would drop the Glaive pilot altogether, and throw in Stele in the TIE Advanced.

TIE Advanced: Maarek Stele (27)

Juke (2)

TIE/x1 (0)

Advanced Targeting Computer (1)

The Advanced Computer has amazing synergy with Stele's own ability, and keeping the Target Lock on the board means Vessery will have a target. Vessery fires on the target of Stele's Lock, (hopefully) knocking out shields. Stele then opens fire, triggers his Adv Comp, which then triggers his own pilot ability. Juke helps him get the most out of Adv Comp. The Defender might be better as a hull, but I feel Stele makes for one of the best wingmen for Vessery.

If that isn't something you care to consider, then it would come down to personal preference. If you think having the Initiative is important to how you fly, then go with the TIE Mk2. Otherwise, put Juke on the Glaive. 99 points is still a decent bid for Initiative, and Juke on an /x7 isn't going to have a problem with making up for all both of it's points.

I would buy the Glaive Juke or Crackshot, even if you have to drop the Mk2 Engines to afford it. It will boost you damage output and Defenders don't have to worry about stress as much as some other ships, particuarly if you are not using PTL.
