Just got a copy of the adventurer's toolkit, but I was surprised to see that there was no 4th storage box for player components. Since I have 4 players, I'm a little miffed...
Adventurer's Toolkit - what happened to the storage box?
The box is the storage box.
I find it useful coz the other 3 boxes all fit perfectly inside the ToA box with room for the 4th player's stuff to spare, so now I can keep all 4 PCs separately in a single box.
Not really the most elegant solution though is it? We have 3 boxes for players in the core set, then cards for a fourth player but no box in the Toolkit.
I love the toolkit box - the ones in the core set are rather poor. Would love to see empty versions of the toolkit box with alternate art available for sale - or perhaps small expansions packaged this way in future so we can build a set.

My impression is that the very nice box the kit comes in IS the player box for the toolkit - which my players are actually going out and buying because they prefer the 'beefier' box with cooler art. =)
I don't get it - why are people thinking that the actual Toolkit box is the storage box? You are of course welcome to use it like that, but I still am curious why we didn't get another storage box because a) FFG set a precedent in the core set by providing 3 storage boxes and b) why would I want to buy multiple Toolkits to provide boxes for my players and thus get heaps of multiples of things I don't want multiples of?
I'm just curious—possible make-do alternative of using the Toolkit box aside—why we get 3 storage boxes for the 3 players available with the core set, then an expansion to add another player but no storage box?

I think using the Adventurer's Toolkit as a storage box for a player is a pretty reasonable jump.
I think the real issue is that the Adventurer's Toolkit isn't a supplement for additional players over 3 at all, but an add on to the core set. As you say, why would players buy the Adventurer's Toolkit and get duplicates of certain core material.
IMO I would have preferred to see the Adventurer's Toolkit include a dice set and the additional core material. That way each player could buy one.
But - argh, splutter - it's got another set of basic action cards in it! And the promotional blurb says "it contains the basic components necessary to accommodate one extra player".
I feel like I've accidently slipped into another dimension. How come no one else can see that a character storage box is missing from the Adventurer's Toolkit?
Hey, it'd be fine if the precedent hadn't been set by the core set. But it did - a storage box per player .
Step in any time with an explanation, FFG staff ...

Because, I imagine, everyone else can see that the ToA box itself can be used to store stuff for an extra player.
We just used the Tuckbox Template Maker and some heavy cardstock to make our ownthat way, everyone can have whatever graphic he likes on his box. The template is here:

They aren't not quite as awesome as the ones that come with the set because they aren't laminated, but they still work just fine, and you can make them a bit bigger, if you wish.
Well, I do have to admit, when going through my AT last night I did wonder "why no 4th box for the 4th player? That stinks." but concluded I'd rather 4 boxes like the AT....so just offer one or the other to us for sale so that those of us with OCD may have uniformity for our PC's please

Good on you all for being so accommodating, but I for one think that if a precedent is set in the core set it should be followed through. The AT should have had another storage box for consistency's sake.

I agree.
Ok- It should have- it didn't. Maybe the next expansion or whatever you want to call it will?
Not if everyone happily accepts this without some sort of ruckus, it won't.
It was told to us early on by FFG (before the AT release) that the AT box itself doubles as the included character storage box. Personally, I think it's a nicer and better box, even if it does take up a little bit more space.
Oh for frack's sake, this is ridiculous. They should know that your typical obsessive-compulsive gamer is not going to accept that - 3 players with flimsy little storage boxes and one with a big solid one. Of course it's a nicer box - I'd even vaguely consider getting multiple ATs if it had content that needed to be repeated, but it doesn't, and certainly not 4 times! That's not the point anyway.
Sorry to go on and on about it folks - obviously this is not an important issue in the scheme of things, but it's just the principle of the thing. Either provide enough storage boxes of the same type for all the players you're providing basic content for, or don't provide any at all, but don't give us this 'oh by the way, the box is the storage box now' guff.
Perhaps future small expansions are going to be of the same format, in which case we'll eventually have enough boxes of the same type. Fine. In which case they shouldn't have set the precedent in the core set.
Hey, I'm a huge FFG fanboy with the best of them, but that doesn't mean there's anything wrong with a little whinge now and again from the customers when things are obviously a bit dodgy.
Personally, the character storage boxes are the thing I could have done without. I sleeved my career cards and now they don't fit in the character boxes since the boxes are just big enough for the career cards with no slack. If I want to use the boxes, I have to take the players' career cards out of the sleeves and store them separately after every game, then resleeve at the start of each session. The box forces you to fold the character sheet in half, after which it doesn't lie flat as easily. If the opposing flap is bent too far, cards can slip out the other side of the box. I also doubt they'll stand up to long term use. It was a nice idea, but not as well executed as the rest of the components. Large baggies would have been more useful.
Yes, the whole thing feels like a bit of an afterthought inspired by the Descent campaign tuckboxes.
I wouldn't be surprised if additional AT-like expansions are released, providing more of the larger character boxes to be available without buying multiple AT.
