Silly B-Wing idea

By Underachiever599, in X-Wing

A stupidly expensive ship idea, but one I found entertaining:

Ten Numb - 31 points

Calculation - 1 point

Tractor Beam - 1 point

Total - 33 points

Relatively affordable compared to how expensive B-Wings can get (Keyan). It's a great way to toss a tractor beam token on high agility opponents and lower their agility for the rest of your squad to tear to pieces. Just make sure the rest of the ships you're flying are a bigger threat, and he'll hopefully be left alone. Once he's the last ship on your squad, you can use Calculation on his primary instead of Tractor Beam to start tossing unavoidable crits onto any remaining enemy ships. I don't really see this being super competitive, but I simply had to share.

Let's add Fire Control System so you can reroll if you don't get any eyeballs or crits! (just kidding)

It's not a bad idea.

Calculation is a nice ability for Ten because it gives him a cheap way to get the critical. The problem is that it uses his EPT - the classic "ace-killer" build usually gives him Veteran Instincts so he can out-pilot-skill Soontir, Fenn and co.

At the same time, it's a nice idea. Dropping an almost unavoidable tractor token is nice - you've got a slightly less than 60% chance of an undodgeable critical, quite aside from whether you manage to hit naturally or not. The ability to throw an ace around is rather nice, too. Maybe pair with a couple of twin laser turret carriers?

If you're prepared to spend a couple more points, the same logic might make him rather nifty with an ion cannon.

I have been playing around with this exact build over the last few days while trying to settle on a regionals list. He's a great on paper ship, and I feel like he could be powerful, but I haven't cracked the code for his escorts. The points kind of work for a mini ordnance swarm, or a gaggle of TLTs, bit in both cases you have to make compromises - for the ordnance, you need to use concussion missiles instead of homing if you want Blount with tracers in there, for TLTs, you need to use HWKs instead of Y Wings if you want three of them. At 33 points he's just a little too pricey

He's definitely in contention though, and with the right escorts, he could do some serious work.

My friend does this with Ion Cannon and it wrecks my world.

A bit more expensive but possibly more effective to give Ten VI as usual then Bistan crew with the E2 upgrade. Add FCS too if you like although by that stage you are hitting 38 points.

Honestly, Nera is probably the best bet for B-wings right now. Her ability, combined with all the things that make ordinance good now, should be able to lay hurt on something.

Nera is good, certainly but I do rather like the idea of Raging Keyan with an Inspiring Recruit to let him shoot off all that Stress.

The problem is that rage, B-wing/E and Inspiring Recruit is essentially the same as taking Push The Limit, or Opportunist, or similar. Keyan's ability already gives you offensive "focus", a B-wing doesn't really need defensive focus, and you're spending just as much on upgrades but taking up more slots to do so.

B-wing/E with Bistan in the back seat is a nice idea. Definitely one for an "if you hit" cannon - probably ion.

Nera is a pretty good torpedo-boat. Her main issue is getting target locks with her lower PS, but deadeye handles that nicely.

My only issue with raging recruit is that the dial is very limiting. Sure if you donanred move you'll get your stress to use, but it turns off the rest of what makes it special.

Another option for EPT is A Score to Settle. Only works on one enemy but bwings live on a timer anyway.

im running him with FCS tomorrow coupled with Etahn and Gemmer (prockets and stuff)

I was thinking the exact same thing. Your really want to fire before an enemy ace so that you can tractor beam them onto an asteroid and they will get no shots.

You have a better chance of landing a crit this way because hits are more common than eyeball results. Also Calculation requires you always have a focus token. B-wings like to K-turn so that can cause issues.

Its a shame tractor beams are near useless against large base ships :(

Not in my experience. The drop in agility has really helped to push through more damage with the rest of the squad. This is especially true when you have a large number of low attack shios attacking a large base ship with any sort of agility. It doesn't quite have the same impact when you have fewer ships firing, but it can still help. I'm tempted to try this with some TLT Y-Wings, or maybe BTL Ions.

Excellent, now just a B -Wing /Defender Title ^_^

Damit, I made a fix & CCL post. If you excuse me please, I am going to cry in some corner now.

All this works so much better on Ryad w TIE/D it's not even funny.

Ryad has to hit with the tractor through all tokens and greens. Ten just needs to roll a crit.
