[CC] Veteran Status and Jumping to Hyperspace

By Yipe, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

Does a ship that destroyed another ship during the match, but then jumped to hyperspace, count as having survived the battle to gain veteran status?

You survive the battle so I would say yes. You do count as destroyed for determining victory to be clear though.

Good question!

The retreat rules say count as destroyed for scoring purposes, but makes no further mention except to specific ships don't become scarred.

Which seems to indicate ship has survived I guess... hmmm...

Dras!!!

After each battle, players track the condition of ships and squadrons in their fleets. Ships and squadrons that were destroyed during the battle become scarred , and ships and unique squadrons that destroy their enemies and survive become battle-hardened veterans .

Veteran Ships and Squadrons: Each non-veteran ship that was not destroyed during the battle and that destroyed at least one enemy ship becomes a veteran.

During a battle, one or more ships may attempt to retreat to hyperspace.

...

If that ship remains in the play area at the start of the Status Phase, remove that ship from the play area . It will count as destroyed when determining score , but does not become scarred after the battle has been resolved (see "Tracking Fleet Condition" on page 9).

It's not destroyed, so yes, it can become a veteran.

You're not Dras, but it's still a very Dras-like answer, so I'm satisfied! :D

You're not Dras,

I'm so sorry... :'(

You can be his apprentice...

Always two there are, a Master and an Apprentice.

Reading this I would say that it does not, as it counts as destroyed so that leads me to think that it does not get veteran status, it is just not scared.

But I would point out that it does specifically say only that it counts as destroyed when determining score, not when tracking fleet condition, which is the separate step in the Battle Phase during which veteran and scarred status is assigned.

You're free to play it as you will, of course. That's the nice thing about all the CC questions here: there's always the out of "just agree wit' ya mates".

But I would point out that it does specifically say only that it counts as destroyed when determining score, not when tracking fleet condition, which is the separate step in the Battle Phase during which veteran and scarred status is assigned.

I am very willing to admit that I could be wrong with this, as I have not read it that closely. I also have to say that I do not know how much it will come up in my local group, and I am fine either way as I think you can read it either way base only on what I have seen here.

From another thread, where JJ and another had a conversation with FFGMike.

6. What happens if an Imperial player retreats ships during a Hyperlane Raid special assault?

A: The ships also count as destroyed for the scenario, granting their victory tokens and resources to the Rebel team.

This would be a precedence in favour of not gaining veterancy. However I'm not totally sold. It would make sense that an escaped ship would still gain veterancy.

- What happened, boy? You looks scared.

- Va-Va-Vader happened! He decimated our fleet. I just run away from there.

-Oh! I understand. Now you are a veteran of Scarif.

- A veteran? I am a ******* coward!

- Yes but you learned something.

- What?!

- When you must run.
