What do you bring?

By patox, in X-Wing Off-Topic

On game night, wherever it is you go for X-Wing goodness, what do you bring with you?

  • Do you bring your entire collection?
  • Do you bring what you need for a single list?
  • Do you bring everything from one faction?

I just folded in the last 7 expansion packs into my collection. It's getting unwieldy with 4 binders literally bursting at the seams with cards. There are 3 plano's filled with clear plastic stands. And let's not even get into tokens. I feel like I bring more gear to a game night than I do when packing for a weekend trip.

On a side topic, will FFG put out an official app with all the ship and upgrade cards? That would help a ton with setup and breakdown. But would it cut into the business models and players would stop buying expansion packs just for the cards?

I tend to bring all of it. I use a third party app for determining lists. For tournaments I'll prepare a list and put the cards, and tokens in a plastic baggie for brevity of setup. For casual play Ill just put together something fun on the fly depending on what the opponent wants to run.

I keep all my bases in a gallon ziplock bag at the moment. they take up too much space in the bins and they aren't terribly fragile so..

Until I get deeper bins for large ships they just kinda chill in the larger box containing pilot cards, upgrade cards, damage decks, random tokens, glue, rubber bands and any other random thing I may need in a jam.

It may seem like a lot to lug out but I usually spend an entire afternoon at the FLGS when I do play, so it nice to have everything at hand. 20170110_140523_by_tattoosbymikeguinn66- 20170110_140654_by_tattoosbymikeguinn66-

Been a while since I made it to a game night but, unless I was practicing a specific list, I used to bring all of one faction.

Picked up a new case in the past year that will allow me to bring most/all of two factions just as easily.

I have a Feldherr case that has four inserts, so I can take my intended lists plus a few spare ships, or ships I think I might end up playing/loaning out. I have a small craft box that carries my tokens, dice go in a bag, and I put my squads in some nifty card holders I have. Asteroids and range rules fit in the front pocket. Simples.

That said - I do often have my pilot/upgrade binders and Plano with extra tokens & stuff, but I rarely get them out of the car.

I bring the noise...

Also my entire collection.

I used to bring everything, but the epics. Then, my collection got so big that my large Plano can only hold my small based ships now. I've also started the podcast and have a large bag that holds all my epic, HotAC, and all large based ships. Since I don't know sometimes what I'm going to do, I bring it all. Getting that wheeled duffel bag has really helped. Also, the Plano 3700 tray that lets me fit a lot in. The only problem is that now I'm running out of room for large based ships.

Link in my sig has a thread for all my storage.

For cards, I find that boxes are better than binders. I hate binders. Broken Token makes a great little box for the small upgrade cards. I won boxes that hold my pilots early on. Sir Willis has a PDF for pilot boxes and upgrade cards. I find it takes up less room and is easier to find cards when stored this way.

Here is an example of Sir Willis' boxes you can make with a foam core board.

I bring the noise... and the funk!

Water lots of water

I used to bring my entire collection. I thought it was awesome showing up to a gameday and being able to just build whatever I wanted. But my collection has never stopped growing. Now it is difficult to bring everything. (2 huge Plano tacklboxes, card binder, playmats and lightsaber). Now I JUST bring what I'm going to fly. This way I can come ready to play multiple games.

I'll bring an X-Wing list, and Armada List, and even a deck or two for Destiny, and carry less than I would for even 1 game.

The only exception is if there is an open ended event - like mystery build - then I'll go ahead and bring everything. Or at least a lot.

Great channel btw.. :) :) :)

Luckily, X-Wing is always chez moi. But that means I provide the game mats and the 3D asteroids.

I'm sure you wouldn't fall into this category but this is one of my true personal peeves - I turn up with lists sorted and ready to go with minimal setup but several of my regular play-buddies will turn up, seemingly with no thought as to what they will fly and then proceed to spend 30 minutes putting a list together.

Grrr.

I bring...

Likewise.

I need to watch this again.

I make 2-3 squads and bring just what I need to play those squads. I usually have one squad that is some stuff I want to try out, one that is more or less what I think I'll be flying competitively, and the third is usually something that is popular in the current meta. This gives me some flexibility in what I play based on who is available to play and what sort of game they want without me needing to lug around all my stuff and then spend time digging out ships and cards instead of playing.

I started with binders but find myself moving to boxes as well. I found that I was never taking the time to rearrange the binders when I bought expansions so I had stacks of cards in baggies and when I got back from playing I wasn't diligent in putting the cards back in the binders. I need to actually go through and pull everything from the binders so my stuff isn't split between the two like it is now.

Everything, though i leave the Large Ship container in the trunk unless i plan to use it. My collection just sits in my car since i use it 2-3 times a week.

Its pretty common to have a new guy want to try the game out so i dont just bring what i want to fly.

I have one box with bases, tokens, dice, and templates that I always bring and then I prepare 1-2 lists and add all the special material (bombs, cardboard, cards) for them.

Everything except my spare tokens and a few shelf-decorating ships to club night.

Only my list and my upgrade cards to tournaments, having nearly left my entire collection behind at least once...
