Played against Dengaroo for the first time....

By TBot, in X-Wing

My buddy got another Jumpmaster for Christmas and i was able to play against Dengaroo a couple times for the first time last night. Holy smokes. The hype is real. How the heck do you beat this monster? Any specific strategies? Obviously stay out of his arc but beyond that? Do you ignore Dengar and go for Manaroo? Or do you ignore Manaroo and go for Dengar? Would a PS 10 ship help?

Props to the gentleman who came up with Dengaroo for the first time. (My buddy just used the same list as the world's champ). All the pieces in this list synergize so well together. Zuckuss is just so dang powerful on Dengar! For one silly point it helps push through so much freaking damage!

I'm really hoping I don't run into any Dengaroos at my first regionals this weekend. Any tips on how to beat Dengaroo would be greatly appreciated.

oh it's real easy

all you have to do is apply this secret strategy

dot dot dot

I played against the worlds champ list recently and beat with Dash and Keyan combo. I killed Manaroo first and after that the over stressed Dengar was relatively easy. Hit them early, hit them hard is what usually does the trick. Especially with Manaroo that can regenerate.

Depends on what you fly, I guess. X7 Defenders don't mind Dengaroo so much, since even with focus and target lock it's hard to do all that much damage against a ship with 3 agility behind a focus and an evade. Dengar altså strongly dislikes Omega Leader.

As for Rebels, this will be an uphill battle. I've beaten the list by alpha striking Manaroo out of the sky and then repeatedly blocking Dengar, but this relies on a good bit of luck.

I fought Dengaroo once with Zuckuss and Bossk, each with Engine Upgrade and Veteran Instincts. I felt like I had a fighting chance. Being able to chase Manaroo with the Boost action was key. I really feel that Aggressors should do well against Dengaroo because they can chase Manaroo really well and get Autothrusters defense as she's running away. Once she's down, Dengar is limited in what tricks he can use.

How do massed TLTs do vs Dengar? Seems like it should be a decent counter.

Question- How on EARTH did your opponent let Keyan catch Manaroo? B-wings usually are one of the worst ships to take against Dengaroo because they are wasted by Dengar and too slow to catch Roo.

I plan on going to an open event and running:

Lothal Rebel/ FCS, Autoblaster turret, Rey, Hera

Dash/ PTL, Kanan, HLC, Title, Kanan, Engine upgrade

Do I stand a chance against the dreaded Dengaroo?

It was Keyan with Trick Shot, Collision detector HLC and C-3PO. Keep him close to the edge and behind the debris fields and he will do his part in putting 6-7 damage to Dengar before he dies. Manaroo was killed by Dash, while Dengar was stressing himself trying to kill Keyan through the debris.

Dash had PTL, Title, HLC, Kanan, Smuggling comp. Rigged cargo and Stealth Dev.

Not the best choice I know, but it did come handy against Manaroos 2 attack dice. In the end it served him better than putting a hull upgrade.

If you can swap Rey for Han, do so. Dash can definitely chase down Manaroo, so use the Lothal do block and/or auto-damage Dengar if he can't keep up. Once Manaroo's down, Dash has a fighting chance against whatever's left of Dengar, but if he gets you in arc you could still be hurting.

I've tried this list, its good against other Rebel lists, but fails against pretty much everything else. The Ghost goes down way too quickly and usually Dash has a hard time taking down Defenders by himself (that's probably your worst matchup, trip defenders). If you can kill Manaroo and end up with Dash vs Dengar, you might have a chance. Depends on how Dengar is outfitted.

With my Kanan/Biggs list, I am undefeated against it. If you know you're going against it, PS10 (or PS9 w/o init) is great to get out of arc, but you can also just go with 0 or 1 agility ships, denying Zuckuss the ability to "push" damage through. But the biggest thing is to block the Sloop. Often times, a single sloop block will just completely screw Dengar over for numerous turns. He's a very predictable ship, and without arc, he only gets a single 3 dice attack (and manny is often completely out of the fight), so he doesn't really hurt. Finally, you have to know when to take the in arc shot and when not to take the in arc shot. If he's popped GS and CM, you probably don't want to take it, but if you have 3 guns in arc, you probably want to.

Fair enough!

Thnx!

You might want to look up previous "how to beat dengaroo" threads that were showing up since the summer. In a nutshell you either need a list that is fast enough to catch Manny or a list that can simply trade dice with Dengar and win (yes, there are lists that can do that - crackshot HLC brobots for example). If your list can do neither, you need to seriously consider if that's what you want to fly. Don't hesitate not to shoot back if you're in Dengar's fire arc. It's his revenge shot that really messes you up, because at that point you'll typically have spent your tokens which makes Zuckuss far more effective. If you deny him that extra shot, you're only getting hit by a single 3 dice attack and it will take him ages to finish you off unless your rolls are really bad.

Hmm maybe my Lothal/Dash is a little outdated then and I need to have a rethink. My current Kanan/Biggs build looks like this:

Kanan: Tac Jammer, FCS, TLT, Rec Spec, Rey

Zeb: Auto turret, Chopper

Biggs: M9-G8 and Integrated

I feel like M9-G8 could be a real pain in Dengars backside or a great buff for Kanans attacks.

Thanks for the feed back.

Lists which can deal with Dangaroo easy will just go for manaroo first, eliminate her and deal with a helpless dangar afterwards. If your list can not hunt for manaroo, you might be in trouble, except when you can steal focus tokens and prevent Dengar's unlimited focus production, In that case it can be safe to just eliminate dengar first … naturally this will be difficult if Manaroo has recon specialist for the double focus tokens.

Still, Wes, Palob, Teroch, R3-A2, auto-blasters, bombs, etc all work rather well against Dengaroo. Anything that prevents Dengar or Manaroo from using Focus. 3-4 TLT against Dengaroo are hilarious, Manaroo can't outrun the turrets and just dies, while Y-Wings can take a single 3 dice attack for ages from Dengar and do not care much about him. ^_^

So I've been flying Mindlink a ton in the past couple months and I actually thinks that's one of the better ways to beat Dengaroo. Asajj with Latts, a few focus and an evade token really doesn't care about Dengar, no matter how many times he shoots you. I still think going for Manny is the right choice with all the other Mindlink squads, but Asajj might be able to trade dice with Dengar if you really needed her to. Teroch seems good on paper against Dengaroo, but I haven't tried to use his ability against Dengar for fear of exploding the turn he pops Glitterstim. Palob might be good too, but he seems like a poor man's Terry to me really. I've had far more success flying Terry than Palob but maybe that's just because the protectorates fit my playstyle perfectly.

Edit: Spelling is hard

If you have alpha strike (triple Defender or better firepower) or you cannot catch Manaroo, kill Dengar first.

If you do not have alpha strike, or if you can easily catch Manaroo (Dash + Engine), kill Manaroo first.

Try to avoid shooting Dengar when he has arc, as that just gives him an extra shot. This means sometimes you do NOT attack.

I just parked HotR Han at range 3 of Manaroo, did a 4 straight and boost towards her and then just bumped her all the while Norra travelled up the field to wipe her out. Just ignored Dengar who spent too long trying to get back in the game.

One friend I play against occasionally assures everyone the best way is to just absolutely throw everything at Dengar. I'm not so sure, I guess if the opportunity presents itself. The one rule is to focus fire on one or the other in any way.

I tend to just focus fire Dengar. This works well if you have 3+ ships; with 2 it might it be the best idea.

It also works with 2 if they're both hard hitters. I've been on both sides of Dengar vs Shadow Caster+ Party Bus, and the siruation doesn't favor Dengar at all.

Try this list out: Ryad + PTL + Mk ii + x7 Title, Vessery + Juke + x7 Title, Omega Leader + Juke + Comms Relay + Hull Upgrade. This list was my anti-Dengaroo list for the Seattle Regionals (sadly, didn't face it).

All three ships can withstand Dengar's offensive capacilities, and are fast enough to chase down Manaroo.

In general:

1) Try to kill Manaroo first

2) Don't shoot at Dengar if you are in arc and are going to trigger his ability

3) Fly ships that are tanky / hard to kill (like the above list)

GL!
