Current state of Organized Play?

By TravisS, in 3. AGoT Organized Play

Can some one tell me where this game is currently as it concerns organized play. I realize in order to get a kit you need to order on and have a store "sponsor" your play group. What is the current organized play format for leagues/tourneys. Are we in the middle of a storyline league? Are we waiting for the next one to start? Are there any big events for this game? If so, where? Origins, Pax, Toy Fair, Gencon I would assume, but which if any?

Thanks

Well the lack of replies in a fairly active community has me a bit nervous. No one knows where organized play is at this point or no one is participating in it?

I'm not sure if anyone is running AGoT at origins anymore (could be), but the championships are usually at Gencon. Currently, there is a storyline league going on (I think). There are no restrictions on the play format, but most people run tourneys using the entire LCG card pool. The championships at Gencon are run under this format. Other people may have more information, but most of us are hoping for some improvements in the area of OP.

Thanks for the insight. Having another storyline league would be great for casual and competitive. I like the idea of using just the LCG cards. That way everyone has access to all cards in the pool from a purchasing standpoint.

Thanks again

Currently, there does not seem to be any active national tournament structure. OP is generally determined by local metas, if they want to play in leagues ot tournaments or both. The Prize Kits support both types of play, depending on how a group wants to support prize structure. In my area, I am mostly just running leagues I can't quite get tournament play to take off. And I can't say that it is an LCG issue, as we are doing alright at present with both Warhammer leagues and tournament play.

Although it takes effort, time and commitment, I would like to see some sort of ranking system established for the LCG games, like FFG used to do before the switch to LCGs and the new website. I always tried to improve my ranking against other players in the state, and one of my players was adamant he was going to get in the top 5 for "classic" thrones. For some reason, alot of players get the competitive itch when they are matching themselves in score with players in other communities, not just the local group. I'd also like to see some more regional-level events perhaps a series of local level events where players can then compete at a regional level for some extra prize, such as a poster, signed cards or something similar. I would love to have a map of Westeros like the one used on the Kingdom cards/Storyline tracking map, without all the other clutter that is one beautiful map.

i actually might be able to get you a map of Westeros! i could make a copy at kinkos but you'd frame it (which i'm sure you will) it'd look great!

Have you heard anything new on organized play? Game Nights? I'm very interesed in playing, but can not find any groups or places to play.
