"At the start of the end phase, you may discard a card to replace a face up (upgrade) or (illicit) card you have equipped with another card of the same type and equal or lower point cost."

Question: What prevents me replacing a card in my list with one from the opponent's equipped ships, thus removing it from the opponent's list for the current game?

I don't believe this interpretation is the designer intent - but I remember the old days of gaming where it would have been. It would be nice to get a clarification on this before some people get very angry when it inevitably comes up.

When I assign a focus token to one of my ships, do I steal one of my opponent's ones? Sure, I get where you're coming from, but without it saying otherwise, I think we can assume the new card comes from your own stash of game-ready cards, not from cards already played.

It does seem awfully washy in the wording, though.

The wording's a bit wish washy but the intent is obvious. It's not like when you're listbuilding you can pickpocket your opponents either, you have to bring your own cards.

I do think it'll come with a rules excerpt on the enclosed pamphlet, though. It bloody well ought to, seeing as it's an entirely new concept.

I don't think there's any chance FFG means to enable theft, but I would be curious to see a ruling on whether cards that are equipped to friendly ships already can be swapped around.

you have misquoted the card, it says:

"at the start of the end phase, you may discard THIS card to replace a faceup illicit or cargo upgrade card you have equipped with another upgrade card of the same type of equal or fewer squad points"

the card works as follows, i discard Vizago i replace my illicit (must sill be in play, so cannot replace a broken cloaking device or scavenger crane) with another illicit of same or fewer points, there is no way to steal an opponents card

And how the hell you came up with this idea...?

I doubt FFG would suddenly introduce a theft mechanic without any mention of it whatsoever in the preview article.

Because it's not MtG and we're not a bunch of morons. That's why.

You should reread the card.

It lets you discard Vizago to swap to another illicit with the same or less point cost. You don't take the card from some other ship.

You're probably right, but I gotta be honest, when we first saw the partial text of Scavenger Crane, I was REALLY hoping it said you could steal up upgrade from a destroyed ship, which would include enemies.
