Thoughts on Light Scyk Interceptors?

By PhantomFO, in X-Wing

Figured we could do with a separate thread from the normal Scum epic discussion.

Do you think this card will help the Scyk see further play?

The bumps themselves aren't huge. They already had two green banks, so the only gain there is an extra green 3-bank. The cost reduction is a bigger deal, but at the cost of both modifications and somehow even less durability.

I can probably see a spot for a couple Veterans with PTL or Crack Shot paired with a Heavy Swarm Leader. They're made of glass and could be murdered by Wampa, but dat alpha strike...

A lot of thoughts can probably be summed up here .

BUT... there's a lot of potential here for a fast, agile blocker. Looking forward to seeing more on the new pilots and their abilities, and finding out what other dirty tricks come in the pack.

Swarm Leader batteries for me really. Can't see running them as much else (apart from blockers)

The baseline Scyk was always really worth 13 points - a marginally, very marginally, better TIE fighter.

They've given you two more (relatively low-priority) greens in return for a durability downgrade (first hit is crit-proof, second hit is guranteed crit - I'd rather the TIE Fighters three hull at that point.)

Does it balance out? Probably, I guess. Does it give them a niche instead of the Z-95? Well, kinda. Z-95 is still the ship you want as filler, but maybe this 12pt Scyk has some hilarity in super budget aces or EPTs, or something.

Does mean my analysis of its problems was right all along though, which makes me feel better about the world. ;)

If the PS 1 pilot is less than 14 points AND not unique, oh what fun.

It is nice, and funny... scum ships always have this weird, backstabby, suicidal vibe. Making them just prone to spontaneously explode from crits, I can live with that. Point discount is nice.

I wish the Light Scyk title came with a mandatory Deadman's Switch upgrade like the G1-A title and tractor beam.

It'll be unique. It says we get 4 new aces (which implies uniques) and we see the two existing generics and 4 new cards. Means it'll probably also be at least 4 points since it gains, at a minimum, a pilot ability to makes up for being 1 ps lower than the spacer.

I wonder how many copies of the upgrade card are in the pack?

Nevermind, looks like 6

Not being able to equip mods and taking all face-up cards does seem like a steep trade off at first glance. In reality, you probably wouldn't be taking modifications on this ship anyways, and there is only one hull that matters for the faceup card. It does create a ship that can be one-shotted by a lucky use of Black Market Slicer Tools.

My guess is that the downsides were to keep the +2 cost +1 hull of the Heavy Scyk title looking like a good option than it was to balance out a 12 point Scyk being a slightly better value than a 12 point Z-95 or TIE Fighter. Otherwise the Scyk would be in the boat as the A-Wing. Heavy Scyk would be a 4 point upgrade for the Scyk, just like Proton Rockets ends up being a 5 point upgrade for A-Wings.

Not likely to fly them when the con outweighs the pros. I get why they did it (to keep.the heavy interceptor alive, without that con everybody would just light scyk) but it's nothing that interests me.

I'm more after this for the big ship and the other goodies we don't even know about yet.

-2, no mods, AND all damage is now crit! Card might as well just say that the ship just has 1 hull point....

I have yet to see anything that will make people want to fly them in a competitive tournament.

I have never liked equipment restrictions in any game. This flying coffin seems very niche to me. Cheap blocker yes but sneeze too hard at it and it explodes. They rob the one upgrade slot you may actually use with it, just seems like a ship you give the new guy no one likes.

Which modification would you even take on this? No one throws modifications on their cheap TIE fighters. It's just not worth it to add to a ship that has a primary selling point of "It's cheap".

If you are going to actually be sinking points into a Scyk, you are going to take the Heavy title.

Stealth Device would be my go to on this

I don't see why you'd increase the cost of a ship by +25% to get an extra green die that may not do a **** thing for you. Stealth Device only really seems to make sense on more expensive ships that have some way to stack defensive modifications.

Not taking mods is no issue imo, but only having 2 attack dice is a big deal, Maybe you can compensate with fearlessness, but I doubt it. I think this fix is dead on arrival. But I am hoping that I am wrong and someone comes up with anything interesting. It certainly is not a no-brainer title like the x7. Not even like the defender title.

Yeah. FFG is basically letting you run these like the flammable garbage that they are.

I know you can't do it fox wwhsd asked what I would put on it and it's really only costing 1 for at least a shot at some defense. I know green dice are not popular here but they have saved me enough times I trust in a little luck to help this dynamite box on wings

Maybe a 17 point tansarri point veteran blocker or two with intimidation?

Nevermind, looks like 6

It certainly does, but they've changed card quantities on us before, so I'm not even going to put any stock in that. We could end up with 8 or we could end up with 4. Who knows?

I could maybe see it as a way to get Laetin on the table. You never had a reason to shoot them before.

I feel like it's one con too many. Either all cards are faceup, OR you lose the mod slot. But both penalties combined are just too much when the only gain is a green 3-bank.

I'd probably like it better if it turned all hard turns green. You're still flying a ship made out of toothpicks and balsa wood, but that thing can really turn!

The extra green bank certainly isn't worth it IMHO.
