Guessing Jabba's Ability

By Crabbok, in X-Wing

Two Crew Slots

6 Points

"Once per turn, change 1 opponent's focus die result to a blank. That dice cannot be modified again."

That's pretty close to fluff. Just short of Palp, but good enough to resist focus (force) trickery.

The assumptions here of course, is that the picture of Jabba is representing the actual character of Jabba, and not representing a generic upgrade card.

Now it certainly looks like a unique Jabba card, but you never know.

I too have been hoping Jabba has a 'bounty' like ability that can target an enemy ship. Cards that push back against the 2-3 ship meta are good. As others have noted, there is not a condition card in the spread. Jabba giving illicit extra munitions doesn't seem cool enough...

Well.. it might be the hibernation sickness, but all I see is a blurry block if text. I do agree that it is almost certainly the magnificent one, but, until I see a non blurred version, it is not guaranteed.

I can't blame you for your skepticism, but when you zoom in at 500%, it's hard to argue that it's not "J ABBA THE H UTT . "

FFG seems to want to push the Scyk as a swarm ship with this expansion. With any luck, Jabba's ability will do something to enhance the power of swarms- and that has some thematic flavor, too.

He could do this by having a 'bounty' ability that punishes high point ships - perhaps cancelling all focus results from an enemy ship when it's defending.

or

By giving out a mapwide bonus that becomes more powerful the more ships that it applies to - something along the lines of: 'at the start of the combat phase, you may choose one enemy ship. Each of your ships within range 1-3 of that vessel may acquire a target lock on that ship, then, each ship that acquired a target lock receives one stress token'.

I'd also be happy with a 'don't discard your illicit upgrades' ability :)

Is there anything in the game that stops an opponent being able to use pilot abilities?

If not, that. Just because someone needs to do it.

Place 5 delicious frog tokens on Jabba. Once per phase spend a delicious frog token and change one die result to any other result for that die. That due cannot be modified or rerolled again this round.

All friendly illicit upgrades gain an 'illicit' token that may be discarded when that upgrade says to discard the upgrade.

I hope acrylic frog tokens are a part of a tournament prize pack in 2017.

acrylic prize tokens are the best!

I don't think Jabba will be two slots, no real reason for it other than fluff. Unless he is very strong of course. Then again, he is Scum Only, you'd not expect to see him on a Mist Hunter.

Jabba, in the LCG, is about putting things back on the board, so maybe discard him to flip over a used illicit or two?

Based upon theme he is the scum equivalent of Emperor Palpatine. Now you might be right because there is only one ship that could carry a 2x <crew> card. The YV-666. Then again when Emperor Palpatine came out thee is only 2 ships that could carry him.

I still say bring on the party bus.

I hope he is epic only, the C-ROC still seems rather small for him, not flagshiplike enough.

Yeah, stinkin FFG. I feel like they make those pictures tiny and blurry on purpose. If you squint and zoom in though, you can see that it reads

•Jabba the Hutt

Scum only.

When you (4-letter word) (3-letter word) (4-letter word)

(Given spacing on margins, probably at least 5 more lines of text)

Now, the tokens - there's 10 of those illicit tokens. We can see that there's five of the blue colored card to the left of the second row (which has the cannon icon) on the card spread. So either FFG seriously thinks Jabba's ability will assign as many as ten tokens simultaneously, or each of those blue colored cannons will assign two. Then, there's the brown-colored card next to the blue cannons. That one has two copies, and given it's next to the blue cannons, might also be a cannon. And thus, that might be the reason for the weapons disabled tokens, if it is a sort of Corran Horn ability.

So, my hypothesis is that Jabba has an extremely complicated ability that has nothing to do with illicit upgrades OR disabling weapons!

At the start of the combat phase, You may assign a focus token, evade token, or two stress tokens to any ship in the play area.
