Rebel Synergy - Fulcrum, Red Leader and Gold Leader

By WAC47, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Here's an entry for the "so crazy it just might work" category:

Ahsoka Tano (22 points)

VI, Title, Capt. TIE, Rey

Garven Dreis (30 points)

R2-D6 (The droid that gives him an EPT*), Swarm Leader, Integrated Astro.

"Dutch" Vander (31 points)

Autoblaster turret, Plasma Torpedoes, Extra Munitions, R2 astromech, Guidance Chips

These three come out to 83 points and form a tight synergy. Ahsoka can bank a focus early on. When they reach engagement, Garven and Dutch focus. Ahsoka evades, then pulls up a focus from Rey. Ahsoka then spends the focus at the start of the combat phase to give Dutch a target lock (which then gives Garven a target lock). Dutch then throws out a U-boat style plasma torp. Garven can spend Ahsoka's evade (which she definitely doesn't need unless the opponent is PS 9+) to add a red die to his fully-modded attack. He then passes his focus back to Ahsoka so she can bank it up for the next turn.

Given how complicated the synergy is, it's surprisingly tough to break. Garven and Dutch are unlikely to be PS-killed. Any two of the ships can continue to produce fully modded attacks. The only question is what to fill the last 17 points out with. Some ideas:

Captain Rex (14 points). Debuffs enemy attacks, blocks, then disengages to do it again. Can provide another evade for Garven, particularly when blocking. Results in a 97 point bid... enough to make the Dengaroo match a toss up on initiative, which is important to avoid TL passing/countermeasuring shenanigans at the start of the combat phase.

Prototype Pilot w/ autothrusters or EMP device on Ashoka (17points). Cheap blocker and evade generator. Alternatively, could be a Green squadron with Trick Shot and "A score to settle."

Bandit sq. pilot w/ homing missle and guidance chips (17 points) No evade for Garven, but can pack a mean beta strike. If Garven has the opportunity to spend his focus, you can get a FULLY MODDED homing missle shot on a k-turn (Dutch says the friendly ship can "acquire" a target lock, meaning works through stress, and Garven passes his focus). It's a Z, so good chance to get wiped off the board before it has the chance to, but boy would I like to see the look on my opponents face.

Anyway, it may not win me any tournaments but I'd like to put it on the table and try it out. Mostly I'm just happy with how fluffy it is, if you disregard Rey crew. I'm guessing the lack of repositioning and defensive tech (barring Rex's ability and Captured TIE) may spell doom against the prominent meta lists. However, setting up Ashoka to block a turn before and using the 17-point whatever as a blocker may mitigate the positioning disadvantage. And hopefully Garven and Dutch are wiping things out more quickly then they can be killed. I'd be interested to hear people's thoughts.

*For some reason, EVERY time I see someone put R2-D6 in a list, the first or second comment is "So and so doesn't have an EPT." Just getting this out of the way now.

Definitely looking forward to some Ahsoka combos like this one. Personally I like A-wings so I'd go with one of those two options, but running Rex's suppression is also pretty appealing...
