Battle Report, NJ regionals Jan 2017. Part 1.
Maybe I overlooked it. What was your command deck?
He never listed the full deck, he just talked about some cards he included and then said he took the must haves (Take Initiative, Negation, etc).
Assassinate
Son of Skywalker
Call the vanguard
Hightened reflexes
Force surge
Camouflage
Negation
Tough luck
Positioning advantage
Take initiative
Element of surprise
Urgency
Planning
Force rush

Curious, do you feel that Leia instead of the E. Echo Troopers would work with this list? Or does losing that front line shield really hurt? The command cards would need a bit of a tweak as well to try and utilize her spry trait? Or just negate that and focus on rotating SOS and getting in more Luke attacks.

Def need to keep the troopers. The list is kinda light on bodies as it is. Leia has pretty much always had that problem. People used to always ask why I played the troopers instead of her with luke and sabs. It makes a world of difference. Twins have always been overrated. People just lose their you know what that one time they pull off son of skywalker multiple times in a game, or point out that you still get the extra attack with her. The troopers (at least in those lists with the old luke, but even now at times) weren't just a wall either. You know how much damage those guys could do with red/green, a +2 surge, and a luke reroll (not to mention they are WAAAAY better targets to focus than luke/leia). Alot. Plus blowing someone out with red/green from 3 spaces with deadeye (which was of course a must have with sabs anyway) is hilarious.
Now granted if you pull off some sort of son of skywalker recursion NOW with the new luke is even more powerful, but it is still far too unreliable and you will get steamrolled in this age with weequays, pigs, etc. without having something to absorb some hits. It's also extremely important to have something that can effectively screen for rangers or hks etc. They are just much more consistent.
Edited by bobbywhiskeyI know this may not be very popular to say, but I've felt for a long time that Leia is too costly for her abilities. Her attack isn't that great. Her health/cost ratio is pretty bad. I feel she'd be a better support only unit losing her battlefield leadership (which I think tricks her player into putting her into situations where she'll die by getting way too close) and getting a refund in price. Maybe a 5 cost, no battlefield leadership, as is leia. I might play that.
I Haven't done the math but what's her attack by herself like compared to Hera? If it's comparable, then 5 cost no battlefield leadership may not be off the mark, for the command card recursion.
I do know, since jabba came out, Leia isn't exactly hard to one shot kill before she can do anything at all in a game. Thanks for 9 points ![]()
Thanks for the insight, my tournament skirmish experience is limited so I am always interested to hear what those who have tested the lists have to say.
I do agree with Leia being over rated, I just thought maybe her range would play well with the E. Rangers, but I can see the downside of losing that meat shield with teeth.
Yeah, Leia is waaaaay better with the original Twins list. It helps Luke get off an extra attack and so heal four in a turn instead of just two. In that list you can play far away and snipe from afar while hiding Leia. You can kind of do that with Jedi Luke, but it's harder, and there's not the added incentive of an additional recover, and there extra two cost for Jedi Luke makes it harder to fill out your list with bodies, so I also don't use Leia with Jedi Luke.

I'd definitely keep the eEchos over Leia. You absolutely need some units that can be up in the fray grabbing objectives and taking fire. Leia can't do any of those things. She was good because the spy command cards were better than anything except maybe troopers. Now that there is a better variety of command cards to play with, especially for hunters, she has fallen below the power curve a bit. As far as multiple son of skywalkers, you really only need to use it once to win the game.
Long bump but I have been doing some testing with this list based on recent Regionals reports and I am leaning towards using Obi-Wan over the Echo Base Troopers.
Obi-Wan is great company for Luke in the front lines, both are going to be annoying to take down with built in defense. Obi-Wan is also a Storm Trooper muncher and that frees up Luke to take down the bigger/priority targets.
12 Jedi Luke
12 E. Alliance Rangers
7 Obi Wan
3 Gideon
3 R2-D2
2 C-3PO
Then you still have a point, so you can either put Diplomatic Mission on Gideon or Balance of the Force to stack some higher value cards in the deck.
Command deck looks something like:
3 Son of Skywalker
3 Assasinate
2 Call the Vanguard
2 Tools for the Job
2 Heightened Reflexes
2 Force Surge
1 Negation
0 Take Initiative
0 Urgency
0 Positioning Advantage
0 Planning
0 Element of Surprise
0 Force Rush
0 Hard to Hit
0 Mitigate/Devotion OR Heart of Freedom w/ BOTF
The last one I am on the fence about, having more re rolls is always great, less useful for the Rangers but more useful for that red die in Obi-Wan's attack when you get the dreaded 1 damage on a critical hit. Devotion just increases your chances of seeing SoS, however it is a lot to put on one card as that will be the only unique in the deck.. however as you said SOS wins games! If you did balance of the force Grenadier would fit, but the Rangers will most likely never be in range of multi clustered units to use it so another great option is Heart of Freedom and upgrading one of the 0 1 or 2 cost cards by a point..like camouflage, although I don't know which 0 cost you would want to replace.
Don't be afraid to run fewer points in your Command Deck if the cards you want make sense. I know most would take Element of Surprise over many 1 and 2 point cards, as you have, so don't feel as though you Must Maximize. ![]()
But given your question I would probably take Heart of Freedom. It's a crushingly good card. Especially running Kenobi and Luke.
I'll stick up for Leia.
Yes, she's super fragile. Especially in this age of Assassinate + Heightened Reflexes. That is not in question.
However, she can still be a benefit. Don't underestimate her range, rolling YYB with a surge for +3 Accuracy, I can habitually make range 7-8 shots, more if she's focused. Speed 5 can allow her to run up and use Battlefield Leadership with someone your opponent may not have foreseen (though not recommended, her previously mentioned fragility).
I run her though for Military Efficiency. If Jedi Luke uses SoS, and she can recycle that just once, that may be worth 8 points to me alone. Luke can kill that many points worth in figures easily when going twice in a row.
I keep her in the back, try and pair her with another sniper, and let her make long range shots. Woe is the opponent who ignores her. And with Gideon "Surge for Stun" Argus next to her, and maybe a Ranger, woe is the figure sent to deal with her.

What? Gideon can't stun.

What in the world?
I SWEAR I typed 'Focus'.
Well that's embarrassing. But Focus, I meant Focus. ![]()
