Yavaaris no longer has to die a hero's death.
Also doesn't need flight commander and coordination teams.
Thoughts? is Armada broken? Is Ben to blame?

Definitely not broken as you need to invest 30 points in relay squads just to be able to double tap two squads from anywhere on the board and keep yavaris safe. It's nice to be able to do, but you have to pay the points for it, balancing it out
How much does a B-Wing cost anyway? Oh wait, it costs less than two VCX. Hence, instead of double tapping 2 B-Wings, I could just...buy 4 b-wings.

Strategic has its own value and such but your core point is valid. If all you want to do is roll bwing dice 4 times there are other more efficient ways.
I think it's a nice trick even if you don't have a second relay. I'll have to try it out when I game on Wednesday.

And flight commander/FCT combo costs 6, which is more than the difference between the squadrons, while you also get to keep Yavaaris, a 60+ point investment, safe. Even with just 1 relay you could still work some magic, in addition to getting the utility and diversity of strategic squadrons. For 30 points, I'd consider that a steal (but definitely not broken). And multiple ships (flotillas) can send squad commands through the same relay, so all of your X/Y/Bs can attack.
But then your 60+ point ship is contributing nothing itself, and part of what you're paying for is the 3 red dice out of the front and 2 blue anti squadron. So you're looking at 90 points that is going to do minimal or no work on its own. I dunno, it seems probably bad.
I'd probably think of it more as an extra option. You still want to fly it into battle and get your dice. That's going to be an important part of battle in a lot of lists. You've now got an alternate way of creating flexibility with the squadron activations, with the VCX opening up quite a few more possibilities for squadrons to be at distance 1 and not move.
If the enemy aren't killing Yavaris then they are killing some other part of your fleet. With a double brace and a coms netted repair token to move 2 rear shields onto the front, Yavaris can take a lot to bring down.
But it does look like a fun option. If you are buying a squadron for the Strategic benefits of moving tokens then relay+Yavaris is just a cherry on top.
Never said that it wouldn't contribute to the fight, just that it doesn't have to charge into the heat of battle like Yavaaris normally does. It can flank, it can pincer, it can slow roll to keep those sides inaccessible. It doesn't have to go into Hyperspace with the squadrons it intends to use. It can go speed 1, 1, 2, 3 to get out of dodge like salvation. Fight ambush is a real possibility to get an alpha strike on Major Rhymer or anything really with Dutch/Wedge (I personally think that some people on here dismissed that objective way too early because we didn't know what relay did yet).
VCXs are pretty easy to kill with FC Tie/I. 5 dice and reroll can kill it in 2 attacks, 3 if you are unlucky. And then the combo is dead.
I'd consider running Yavaris on the outskirts of my fleet so it can throw reds. My Yavaris always died a hero because it charged right up the middle drawing fire away from my Liberty.
The VCX is something to consider because it has strategic, but your other ships can activate through it, as was already mentioned. CR90s with a banked squad command can now punch a little harder, or trigger Sato to you can throw 4 blacks with CF and double arc, or even tie down a Rhymerball by activating Tycho.
Relay is a game changer but I don't think it is as powerful as some people make it out to be. 8 hull still dies, and it has heavy.
Personally, I just run yav with rieekan and accept its delayed but inevitable destruction.

Definitely terrifying. If it's going to die anyway you don't need to worry about activation order, and there's absolutely no counter to this.

Nothing so dangerous as a crew of spice addicts with nothing left to lose.
