Main Characters

By Cpt Hellcat, in X-Wing

It's disappointing that the main Star Wars characters aren't stars in X-wing. I'm talking original trilogy rebels, obviously Vader & the Emperor are very strong, and I think they did a good job with the Force Awakens. It's fun to use iconic characters but they get beat out by obscurities, scum cameos, and cartoon Rebels.

Luke pilot - T-65 needs help

Falcon pilots - not sure, but they don't seem to see too much play

R2-D2 - 1 of the top droids, check

Crew

Luke - good, but I see Gunner much more, is 7 pts too much compared to Emperor at 8?

Han - meh, I'd like to see him as a rebel Dengar.

Leia - maybe OK if she was 0, but for 4 pts with a discard, no way. I like the general theme of her removing stress from friendly ships. as a main character, she should do this better than anyone. card needs a total redo.

Chewie - check

R2 - not worth 4. Only works when shields are gone and risk is too high. Should be able to regen up to shield max, maybe as an action or with some risk. Maybe could be same as the astromech, with regen after a green move but with a chance of failure.

C-3PO - check

Lando - I like him but he's not worth 3, probably OK at 2.

No Obi-Wan Kenobi?? crew that makes a sacrifice for the greater good...

Yoda? He rode in starships in the prequels...

R2 was a staple during the Fat Han Era.

Also Han is great on a VCX.

Han is great on a ship that isnt his.....HAHAHAHAHA

I like that they aren't. Every time I lose a main character on the board I think "Well maybe I can win the battle but I will never complete the movies now...."

R2d2 astro is amazing so eh about the crew

Want snark?

:P

Okay lol, yeah we all know the biggest eye catcher eye breaker is the Star Wars license and all the iconic models and recognizable characters. However in order for the living game to advance is it needs new ships and new characters. Also it is the balance that keeps the game in play because the game isn't predictable with overpowered plot armored charachters. Well hindsight is always 20/20 so a that means that the main characters might not make it into the top meta while keeping a balance game.

At least in this way you won't have to see your favorite characters such as Luke and Vader get killed 20 times in a tournament. You might see Biggs get blown up 20 times in a single day, but that's just a normal day with Star Wars Ep IV set on repeat.

The Han in the Falcon used to see a ton of play. I have seen lots of Lando lists, and Chewie used to be a great tank, I think he still can. A fringe case, but I think the Yt-1400 is pretty much fine, yeah the current meta is a problem for it.

I always thought pilot Han was a bit underwhelming, but he still got used.

Now we're at Wave 10 the crew Luke seems a relic of a bygone age. He's way too expensive.

Luke was fairly popular during the TLT era.

The sad part about how the game needs to evolve. . .FFG clearly wants the main characters to show up in the game right away, but as the game evolves, they become the trilobites of the X-Wing meta.

Darth was awesome when the /X1 was released along with his then awesome pilot ability. Getting 2 actions in a turn for no stress was like woah...But now even green pilot in his /x7 gets Darths action economy and is in a much better ship. I would love to fly Darth more competitively, I just know he will get blown away

Rerelease Darth in a V-Wing!!

I have to give cudos for the original way you began a win post.

R2 crew is actually still really good. Assuming you're not up against hyper TLTs Han can just boost his fat booty around arcs and not have to worry about the damage card.

You forgot about Wedge, Wes, Hobbie, too..... they are also highly disregarded because of the T65 weakness

Ahem, I think you mean Vader in an Eta-2.

You could always release him in a TIE defender.....although I dread to think what Darth Vader in an Engine Upgrade, TIE/x7 defender could be capable of...

You can have some pew pew, and you can have some pew... EVERYONE CAN HAVE SOME PEW PEW!!!!!!

Leia is none too shabby in Epic, allowing your ships to make a crucial jump ahead towards the enemy Huge while still retaining full options.

R2 crew to shield max is waaaaay too much. Put that on a crushing CR-90 and go to town, beeping all the way, enjoying the full shields. Even as an action, gaining 4 shields is very big.

Could be quite nasty in a TIE/D as well - two actions AND two shots!

So you say it's disappointing that the main characters of the OT aren't in X-wing, then you list out all the main characters from the OT that are X-wing...

I'm confused...

Han not only is still solid, both in pilot and crew, but he has two pilot options (the latter release of which is as themey as a really themey thing on a mountain of theme, bordering the river theme).

Granted Leia has never been a thing really, but the rest all had really strong periods. Superfriends lists were as ubiquitous as Fat Han lists a while back. Gambler Lando builds still crop up, and Chewie is a common choice for Falcon builds still, both in crew and pilot form.

As for Yoda and Obi-wan, people have been asking that for and while, but I'm sure they're saving them for something. Neither were pilots in the OT, so crew release options are limited.

Aren't *stars* in X-Wing.

And, to be fair, you don't see them all that often currently. But that would mean they'd have started the game by overpowered characters and no incentive to get new stuff because the first two waves would still be winning everything.

Yeah, that's a fair distinction. I somehow synonymised "main characters" and "stars" in reading the OP.

Also, agreed on that point. If Luke in the T65 was still a powerhouse, you'd have people with grievances about him being overpowered. I mean, people still complain about Biggs daily.

Han does see a bit of use though, and Luke/Wedge etc are victims of their frame fading rather than ability. It is fun to break them out for casual games sometimes, taking people off guard. Just because a ship/pilot has lost it's tier 1 competitive edge, doesn't mean it's something you shouldn't have fun flying yourself.

Heck, Snap Wexley may not be exactly an old star, but he's also not exactly T1 competition grade. It hasn't stopped me from having an absolute ball with him against some really scary lists over the last couple of months. They're often the most fun and memorable games anyway.

They could just release every pilot in a Defender, and make the Tie Defender available to every faction. Finally, a fair game! :P

ner, some pilot abilities would be far more powerful than others

And none from the original cast of heroes, save maybe luke (or wedge if you count minor characters) really stand out

I mean, compare han rerolls to countdown or pure sabecc or omega leader :P
