Yoda Crew

By TBot, in X-Wing

How have they not put Yoda in the game yet?

Master Yoda: 6 points (Crew)

-At the start of the activation phase, switch a friendly ships ps value with an enemy ships ps value until the end of the combat phase.

I think because of palpatine they should bring balance to the force but realistically neither yoda or him does squat in a ship and neither should be anywhere near a space battle. The emporer stayed hidden or on the deathstar, yoda seemed a tactical leader but of ground troops not ships. I think Obi-wan would make more thematic sense, he at least was a pilot and influenced some space battles.

Yoda's, "Try not; do or do not" would seem to lend itself to an Emperor-like ability of changing a die face -- you're not trying to roll something, you actually are.

Nand Torfs the 2016 world champion said during an interview right after his victory that he wanted to make a force ghost Yoga or force ghost Obi Wan card.

Who knows if it holds up to release though.

I think they should have made yoda and the emporer do the same thing but palp influences red dice, yoda green. Makes sense to me, Yoda would never use his powers for attack and the emperor likely not for defense.

Downward facing force ghost?

He seems to move X-Wings pretty easily. Let him make a small ship within 1-3 BR or Boost forward or backwards.

I like this idea

Yoda will be the second highest PS ETA-2 pilot any wave now.

Or maybe boost results when pilots spend focus tokens? I was thinking something in line with his mentoring scenes in the films. This could apply equally to Kenobi though maybe have him be cheap and single use to reflect the way his guidance was kind of short lived in the films. Oh wait, SPOILER ALERT.

The above Palpatine means that everything not running him takes an auto-loss at tournaments. Bring Palp and 2 X7 defenders and stack those tokens to the moon. Or a TIE swarm...

I think Yoda should be something like:

Yoda (crew, crew, 8 points, uniue, badass)

Enemy ships at range 1-2 cannot use their pilot ability or any equipped [EPT] upgrade cards.

This would give Rebels a counter to the insanity that is Dengaroo and Palp Aces. The sad thing is that it isn't even broken, at this point. Or perhaps:

Yoda (crew, crew, 8 points, unique)

During the activation and combat phases, you have the pilot ability of each enemy ship at range 1.

Just like how Yoda turns force lightning back on Sidious, he turns Soontir Fel and Ryad back on themselves. This may be broken if both you and your opponent have Biggs, though.

Well Obi Wan was not a pilot until Attack of the Clones. In the decipher card game he had the warrior skill icon not the pilot skill icon.

But yeah Obi Wan could be a better counterpart to Palpatine and but that does not mean that Yoda cannot be equally a counterpart. Her's and idea for Obi Wan and Yoda

  • Obi Wan <crew> When defending you may add the number of defense dice equal to your primary weapon firepower, then assign a weapons disabled token to your ship. This is the idea of alternatives to fighting. Sacrifice an attack do get a boost in defense.
  • Yoda <crew> Once per turn when a friendly ship is attacking or defending, you may convert one <evade>, <hit>, or <crit> result to a <focus> result, then assign one focus token to that ship. "Do or do not, there is no try." This is sort of a reverse focus being able to extract a focus token from an overkill roll. TIE SF rolled 1 hit but you rolled 3 evades, convert one of those extra evades into a focus result and gain a focus token as if you weren't even trying.

But yeah there is a substantial list of memorable characters from Star Wars that are still absent from X-wing.

  • Obi Wan
  • Yoda
  • Mon Martha
  • Admiral Akbar
  • Jabba the Hutt (should be two crew)
  • and many more...

So don't worry with special releases there will be plenty of characters that will make an entrance and we will all gladly welcome them in hopes that they continue to shake up the meta.

Yoda

Crew

Your upgrade bar gains a crew slot (come on, he's a small dude, he can sit in a lap somewhere)

At the beginning of the action phase, assign a focus token to each friendly ship at range 1-2.

Yoda should NOT be a crew upgrade. Instead he should be a dual condition upgrade card. One side is Do, the other is Do Not.

The Do side will allow one friendly ship to automatically succeed with best results possible (all crits on red dice, all evades on green dice) for one roll of dice, per turn. Then switch to Do Not.

Do Not forces the last friendly ship that used 'Do' to blank out on their next roll. Or maybe gain the no attack token at the end of the round.

Anyway, not crew because OT Yoda didn't hang out on starships.

what slot then?

yoda crew 1 slot (1/2 rounded up :) ) 3 points

you may negate palpatine.... this way its a risk to take both cards into a competition

Yoda likes lifting Rocks and ships.

I'd have him let you barrel roll asteroids as an action.

Some cool ideas.

Yoda's use of the force should let your primary weapon assign 2 tractor beam tokens. (Size matters not!)

Independent of the card content, but the text should be written in "Yoda-English"

No slot, just a Pilot Card sized upgrade with a cost. Dual sided. He's not on a ship, he's in hiding. If anything Ben Kenobi Crew is the BIGGEST omission to this game. Excep GUNBOAT.

That's probably the most broken homebrew card I've ever seen. It would have to be a 20 point upgrade to be remotely balanced. Could you imagine Fel with that card? He could enter combat with a pile of focus and evade tokens.

Maybe instead of influencing pilots and ships, he could influence the board. I'm thinking something along the lines of seagull tokens.

Old Ben

rebel only

'you may discard this card to apply the "use the force" condition card to one friendly ship'

4 pts

"Use the force"

condition,

"when attacking you may discard this card to change one of your dice results to any other dice result, the defender cannot add, reroll or modify their dice during this attack"

Yo dawg I herd you like to discard cards so we put a discard text in a discard text so you can discard while you discard.
