That it would suit your interpretation doesn't make it important. It's the first movie, and it's where Star Wars started. Trying to present it as the middle of a campaign is bizarre to me.

Who is talking about middle of a campaign? A mentor is one of the resources to pick for a starting campaign. He is actually making your point, but ignoring the silliness of your arguments. Now that mentor character had his own campaign, starting at episode 1, and quite a long campaign it was, but that is kinda irrelevant, because neither Obi-Wan nor Vader need stats for the OT campaign. ;-)

I called it the middle of a campaign because we're talking about viewing the movies through the lens of a RPG, and per the internal chronology, but not the production order, A New Hope is the middle.

That's the context of the last couple pages. I'm not gonna repeat all we've talked about. Not when I'm currently on mobile. :-)

I'm sorry, but you generally don't make social checks while lightsaber swinging, parrying, and counter-strikes are going on. That would be a Lightsaber Check with Scathing Tirade used as a maneuver, at best.

If both parties engage in social checks, the combat is only the setting for their verbal exchange.

Sure, generally it's combat check time when the sabers are out. But that doesn't mean it always has to be, or that it is in this particular case.
