T-65s Don't Suck! (competitive list)

By TheOz, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So I use to be like everyone else and thought it needed some help to be competitive. Now im not saying the lower ps x wing doesn't need some help, but I feel that with light upgrades, the named pilots are still good. What showed me this? My good buddy has been wrecking face with this new rebel list he came up with

VCX-100: Lothal Rebel (35)

Fire Control System (2)

· Hera Syndulla (1)

· "Chopper" (0)

X-Wing: · Wes Janson (29)

Adaptability (Increase) (0)

· R3-A2 (2)

Integrated Astromech (0)

X-Wing: · Wedge Antilles (29)

Crack Shot (1)

R2 Astromech (1)

Integrated Astromech (0)

I play against it all the time and it poses a problem for almost every list, and I often have to fly flawlessly to beat it, and I have lost even when I do that. and at the LGS, he surprises everyone with a super hard hitting alfa strike.

I've seen him beat defenders, ray+ace, dangaroo, 4 ship Attanni Mindlink, shadow casters, k wing bomber lists, and more, it's performance has been so surprising and with great flying, it can really beat anything. It's like fenn, asajj, manaroo list, 3 things that really shouldn't fit together but somehow do

I dare you to try it, it may surprise you, just make sure to get all those arcs on one target

Looks good. All the people crying 'fix' just need to learn the things niche. It is an okay ship that has its place but needs some practice to be flown effectively (aka no boost+broll)

Wes and wedge are just a killer combo, wes steals a token, then wedge lowers agility, and with Crack shot, if wes doesn't get damage through, wedge does for sure, then the Lothal is free of their tokens to lay the smack down. Ps10 rac has been my most successful ship against him, but if the ace gets taken out too fast it's still a tough win

Like I said, try it out, start in a corner, x wings near the edge and go for their squads face

I was just thinking about three Rookies and a Lothal Rebel with FC. I don't shoot first, but what doesn't kill me gets shot in the face a lot...

Yes, this list is tempting to try. It would take some learning though on how to maneuver against various foes. I still might try it.

Lothal really wants hera, plus chopper, hera keeps his arc on the opponent and chopper focuses when you really need a huge hit to happen. Plus the ability to strip tokens and even stress only when you really need it helps against all the empire and attani.

yeah the approach is really important, but not too hard, if they are big ships with eu, go in slow, if it's small base, then 4 forward and bank in, bring the pace

what about taking chop off, giving Wedge adaptability decrease, Wes "A Score to settle" and then exchanging Chop for Inspiring Recruit.

Wedge and Wes still fire at the same time to get the token steal with Wedge follow up, but Inspiring recruit helps keep Wes's dial clear.

Except Inspiring Recruit does nothing to keep Wes's dial - he just gets 2 stress tokens off on a green move, but Wes doesn't have any way to double-stress (unless he does a red move + uses stressbot, but that's a corner case).

I like your idea, but I think ps 9 is key for the x wings, they can't take too much damage and making sure they get their shots in is essential. Against dengar, fenn, and vi ketsu, ps9 makes sure you get your attack no matter what. R3a2 is integrated astromech fodder, and he has actually taken it down to r2 for better point initiative, but r3a2 does have some good moments against certain ships, ptl ships especially. And chopper has come into great use, because I've seen that target lock reroll blanks to eyes so many times, I've been the punching bag for the list so I have witnessed games where 4-5 red dice return only like 2 hits and things like that, and really you want him to clean up an opponent after the x wing shots. If wes could double stress I'd say I'll try it, but since R3A2 only gets used in key situations, we have no trouble clearing stress with the x wings

I really like this idea. My favourite current lists are Lothal/Dash and Biggs/Corran/Wes so I will definitely give this a little test run. My only concern is I feel like i may really miss the threat of the autoblaster turret. Do you think this Rivals Chopper/Dash builds?

Yeah but with hera, you can 5 k and keep people in that big arc pretty easy, autoblaster is good but the list doesn't really need it. And this list is Really more of a jousting list rather then dash who is flying all over the place

OK, I tried this out tonight and I like it. I need more practice with big bases though. Sadly, can't fly it at tournaments as I don't have adaptability and neither do my friends. :(
