Model Issues/Help

By qwertyuiop, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

Hello,

I'm new into the game, having only a few figures, the core, and Jabba's Realm. Has anyone noticed quality issues with warped bases/figures? Will hot water be ok to reshape this type of plastic? Also, any tips on how/where to work on the rancor to make it easier to assemble. Has anyone needed to fill gaps on it and/or Jabba? I'm also new into modeling and I want the figures to look their best before my first foray into mass painting leaves them looking like a kabuki nightmare.

Thanks!

Also, my Gamorrean Guard came with a busted vibro ax. Will FFG replace or am I better off trying to repair it?

I have not got Jabba's Realm yet but I know from experience hot water should fix warped bases/figures as I had to do it twice on an imperial assault figures and once so far with an Armada base - it did the trick just need to be careful the base/ figure is not in the water to long and the water is not to hot.

I expect there might be gaps when making the Rancor, if there is and you think you need to fill them then use whats known as `green stuff' its used a lot in modelling, filling gaps and modding miniatures.

I would recommend maybe undercoating the parts of the Rancor before assembly then fill in gaps and paint it (but you what to paint places that will be hard to reach when assembled like the in side of the mouth).

with your Gamorrean Guard it depends how bad the axe is, but that's why we have Proof of purchase with product right?

Gamorrean Guard axes seems to be the biggest problem with the release. (Also check that you have 2 pairs instead of just 3 figures.)

I didn't want to bother with the core set and just glued my Probe Droids. The axes might be harder to fix.

The bases of both my rancors were warped to the point to where the figure could not fit on the base, even after I soaked the base in hot water and flattened them to their intended shape. I clipped off the triangle shaped peg on the base to ensure a snug fit. Lots of clipping and filing on the arm posts of the rancors as the fit was too snug and was difficult to insert.

As for gap filling, the arms don't really need it and allowing them to be removable (even after painting them) helps with transport so the model takes up space more effectively.

On the rancor, it seems to be where the torso connects to the legs. Thanks for the info.

Incidentally, my probe droids are pristine.

I purchased this heat tool from pat catans for around 13 to 15 bucks. Here is what it looks like. http://www.joann.com/darice-super-heat-tool-with-stand/5787502.html I used it to straighten out light sabers so it should work for bases also. Just heat it up for a few seconds and then hold it till it cools. I have used it on the original doom the board game. The new version of doom seem like the same quality as what was produced for IA before. I have not purchased jabbas realm or the other figures yet so can't say what the quality is like. Hoping to get them at some point just not sure when.

Same problem on my end. Rancor legs were not spaced properly so base had to be sort of bent in order to fit it. Also, one of the axe heads on one of the Gammorean guards was also broken off. I don't know if I am going to contact support for a replacement yet. I glued it back on with super glue and it seems to have done the trick. The miniature quality of FFG products has seemed to have gone into a decline as of late sorry to say.

Just opened mine today and I'm pretty disappointed. One of the axes is broken off, and the Rancor isn't even close to going together. The Rancor arms are both too thick to fit, it will take some work to get them in. The base is the biggest problem though. I can't see how it will fit even if I bend it. I tried to bend put one side in and bend it to make the other side fit and it bows the base completely the other direction. I love the model itself, and would work with the arms, but the base isn't usable.
