What happened to Squadron Benchmark

I'm playing against the double IG and they get tension before the first combat round. I guess it is because of using Glitterstim, but it still appears as unused... that's a mystery

Not really a mystery to me. Denis set the AI up to pop glitterstim and other 1-time upgrades to be used on first move. With the AI being only 350 lines of code it doesn't have any cognitive abilities at this time. If you run against Dengar with Countermeasures, he uses that first round as well.

In order to make it work better, it would have to "cheat" and check ranges, etc when doing actions without acquiring target lock. It already "cheats" a bit when determining moves during planning phase.

I guessed that, but what I didn't understand was the Gliterstim appearing unused. Then it turned black so I thought it just made it later.

Apart from this and sometimes stupid movements, the AI seem to be really good for 350 lines of code!!!

I'm no programmer, but I don't see a huge issue with this. On principle, its certainly cheating, but keep in mind that as a player, you can visually guess whether you're in range or not, and you can circle the table (assuming there's room) to visually check arc. None of this is illegal. Why shouldn't the computer be allowed to make these decisions? I for one would rather it secretly measure range and then use it on the turn that it's most effective, as that would be what a human player does. Again, I don't program, but seems like a fair solution to me. Humans can use incomplete information to make informed decisions, let the computer check range out of turn if that means it will better decide when to use expendables.

Even if it checks there are other considerations for certain types of upgrades. I will definitely look into improving it and maybe even making it a super cheater - lol. Some other things are a priority right now. Once I have most of the bugs squashed and all the new wave 10 ships and upgrades in, I'll tackle some of these "nice to do" items.

Oh yes yes of course. You have quite the to-do list and you're a BAMF for hopping on this undertaking. Just offering my thoughts on things, as I am an avid player of the Benchmark and am quite excited to see it improving. Just keep doing what you're doing.

I can see it now - in a couple of years time, "Ynot AI v5.2" beating Paul Heaver in the final of Worlds 100-0.

Then announcing it's plans to enslave humankind.

That gave me quite a chuckle.

I think we'd need IBM's Watson to do that. :lol:

Just a nice to do thing, definitely not any sort of a priority, but it has always bugged me that carnor jax and other royal guard pilots are shown piloting a grey interceptor and not a crimson one. I wouldn't even think about it except that the defenders (like ryad) do fly the proper color

Has anyone seen the Sarah Connor Chronicles TV series? The Software that eventually became SkyNet began as a humble AI computer designed to play chess.

So, obviously, I'm going to assume that Ynot is developing the precursor to SkyNet.

I think Chopper crew gives out stress like Chopper pilot if on a ghost.

I believe the title does this already but I'll have to check. It should be pretty easy to fix.

I just wanted to say thank you for all the work you are putting into the squad benchmark. After just a couple short games I've noticed a massive improvement over the original version.

Unless I am mistaken, it seems Thane Kyrell's ability is inversed. The card reads that he can perform an action when a friendly ship is attacked; however, in Benchmark he can only activate his ability after a friendly ship performs an attack.

First of all, I have to echo the majority here in saying you've done a great job updating the squadron benchmark. T-70's with primed thrusters are a joy to fly.

One thing I have noticed is that Wes Janson's ability does not seem to work properly. While at times it certainly forces the enemy to spend tokens, I've had him forced to spend his own target lock or focus, even if there was no enemy ship in arc to attack.

I'm having trouble with Fire Control Systems. Every time I fire at someone it automatically gives me a target lock on the defender.
I believe it's optional (the upgrade says " After you perform an attack, you may acquire a target lock on the defender. ")

There are times I don't want to TL the defender and keep my TL on a previous target. Not sure if it's always been that way and I hadn't noticed before.

A good deal of why things are the way they are in part are due to the AI portion of this. I think he chose a lot of "default" decisions to make it easier to program the AI.

I will look at improving this or changing it but I want to at least get all the new ships and non-unique new pilots into the game. This new wave has a lot of very different interactions with the condition cards, etc. This will require some thought and definitely some major additions and/or changes.

Few things not working: Dash can shoot off an obstacle and Smuggling Compartment does not work properly - could not keep BMST on any of the YT-s.

And I can modify my attacks against Omega leader.

What version of the app is showing up for you? What browser are you using?
