When we are explicitly instructed to suffer facedown damage or horror, does that mean to only choose from the facedown cards we already have? If I don't have any facedown D/H cards, does that mean I've lucked out, or do I have to draw from the deck?

Normally when you suffer damage/horror, you receive the cards from the respective decks faceup, when you receive them facedown, you still take them from the deck. No lucking out I'm afraid.

Thanks, Gregor. So if I understand correctly, we always draw from the deck, but the ones drawn face down don't get played, per se - they just count against health or sanity.

That is true. You should know, however, that there are many game mechanics that will tell you to turn over face down damage/horror and execute what it says. So just because it was dealt face down to you at first, doesn't mean it will remain so through out the whole game.
