Delve Too Deep File XI: Jim Culver

By theaficionado, in Arkham Horror: The Card Game

I want to say that based on the rules reference under modifier referring to a number, and the entry to his starter deck saying "His ability to treat the modifier on skull tokens as a “0” improves his chances of success at nearly any test" that all his ability does is change the check on the skull token to 0 instead of the normal negative it has, but leaves any additional effects as they are. Just a thought though. It's still good, because it adds some additional 0's to the bag, up to 4 depending on the scenario (I believe the max is 4 skulls, which also means depending on the scenario, his weakness can hit him for 5 and 5 if you're really unlucky)

I have indeed been informed of that and since rectified it in my article (I did say I wasn't sure!). That said, I was also informed that most skulls don't have other negative effects (unless you fail).

I'm often attempting skill checks at +2 (and very rarely at -1), which means that turning Skulls into 0s very much does make him much better at every test he does!

Thanks for reading! Hope you enjoyed the article! :)

I will eventually describe him in my blog, so I believe it'll be sort of a reply. Haven't played him yet (obviously) and agree on the signature card being... well sort of crappy. However he looks very thematic and might have an interesting play style affiliated with him.

Let me know when you post it; I'll look forward to reading it! :)

The Skull interaction is very thematic indeed. I'm curious if they'll develop it a bit further, and that might make me like him a bit more.
