FFG Regional

By JJs Juggernaut, in Star Wars: Armada

Some in progress reporting for the FFG regional. 2 players short of a cut, 3 rounds total.

I drew the first round bye. Lots of new stuff on the table! Three fleets with Arqs, 4-5 with peltas, and lots of new squadrons everywhere. Surprisingly few bomber heavy fleets, lots of named squadrons though. No phantoms, lots of defenders, but usually not more than 2-4 in a fleet. Sato and Mon Mothma are popular rebel commanders. Lots of mc30s and cr90s. Some YT-1300s. 2 interdictors. No liberties, several VSDs, several MC80 home ones (sans the that title).

Feel free to ask questions and I'll try to respond as well as I can! I'll also try to get better fleet data for the collection if I can.

I just wrapped up round one. Im running an MC80 Command with the Home One title.

Mista missed the one with the title! Doh!

Home One was an excellent investment. In round 2 I rolled almost 30 reds and had at least 20 blanks (because statistics be damned). Home one converted about 10 to accuracies.

Good games, guys. It was a lot of fun!

What won?

Mon Mothma are popular rebel commanders. Lots of mc30s

Niiiiice, FFG meta catching up with San Antonio!

... I'm just kidding, I'm inexplicably still the only one running this, 2 1/2 months later. Just triple-tabled my way to the top of a tourney in Austin today...

Its **** hard to fly. I should be able to fly it given how much i have messed around with mc30s, but i cant. Against squad lists I am a couple of dice rolls away from tabling and instead lose 3-8 etc.

Its tough to do.

Mc30s are my worst ship as Rebs I just can't seem to fly them well at all lol

Agreed. I've done long range standoff Rebels (or suicide CR-90B Rieekan Rebels) for so long I've forgotten what Black dice ships are supposed to do.

Try MC30s with Madine. It becomes almost trivial to put them right where you want them. :)

Sounds like someone I know.

It's funny....JJ and Church ended up playing each other in the last round heh.

Took 6th on the day with an MC30 Admo, TRC90, Bomber Command Flotilla, and a Command Pelta with AFFM.

Squad wing consisting of Biggs, Green, Gold, Norra, Jan, and 4 X's. Bit of an X-Wing swarm, but with BCC and Norra, they were wonderful, and able to eat a lot of squad damage with Jan and Biggs about

Also a fun fact, Michael Gernes was our Judge for the day at the FFG Regionals!

Uhh Matt Smith. Not sure if he's on the forum or not, but I played against him at the Illinois Regional as well. I believe it was a list along the same lines as Illinois, which was a Mothma Swarm with 2 MC30s, a TRC90, and at least 2 flotillas. I'm pretty sure he had a six ship list but I cannot recall what the last ship was.

Matt Antilles on these boards.

This is the first time using Armada Warlord fleet builder; I give it a failing grade.

Pros: It allows the fleet to be converted to text.

Cons: It will not process the list for printing unless you give the fleet a name. (What if you are just noodling with different builds, why does each list need a name. (I.E. program better))

Cons: It will not process the list for printing unless you pick a commander.

Cons: It will not process the list for printing unless you choose 3 objectives. (Maybe I don’t want my opponents to see my objectives when I hand them the list at a regional.)

Cons: After I process the list for printing, I cannot make one little change to the list and reprint it. I must start over and reenter everything.

Cons: It cannot correctly add the 386 point list shown above. (It added it to 387.)

I think Matt's total tournament points were at 24, with second being 23, and two 22nds for 3rd and 4th (I was 4th). Inderdictor used in the 3rd place fleet, and also another fleet in the top 8. Second was Nathan (fargo regional winner, top 4 at worlds), with 3 CR90s, a Neb, and a flotilla or two I think. As well as a fairly aces heavy squadron build. I'm not sure the exact list

I was unable to get a hold of conprehensive list data. Perhaps the TO would be able to get the info for you Shmitty.

Jesus what a rough field.

Jesus what a rough field.

3rd place was runner up at GenCon as well.

...I was very happy with 6th place lol

I finished 8th with my Dual VSD I, Dual Gozanti, squadrons heavy (but no Rhymer or Capt J) list. The Shuttle and Defenders were great. I'll have to type my list in later as I'm off traveling for the next couple of weeks and have next to no time at the moment, but overall, I think Wave 5 and CC sure opened up the meta really wide. Consider too that 24 points being tops, that's just 8pts a game. Things have sure evolved a bit when a 30 or dang close to it was needed for a top spot in a 3 round tournament.

That really was a rough field - maybe the roughest outside of say the Texas Regional or whatever regional Toronto collectively attends.

Oh my days, I spent ages teaching matt how to utilise Tycho in squad defense, and he has only gone and bloody done it.

Very proud to see tycho and shara on the podium.

Gwan my son!

Oh cool, you were my first round opponent. Glad to see your day got better! Mine didn't. :( I came in 11th overall.

If it's any consolation, in order to make up for you never finding those Structurals, karma decided to let my second round opponent (tgall) slip away with a VSD with 1 hull remaining. :/ :P
