Countdown's Artwork (possible spoilers)

By That One Guy, in X-Wing

The art is terrible.

One day artists will check reference material on how engines work on tie fighters before they just guess and completely screw up what could have otherwise been a perfectly mediocre piece of card art.

Oh yeah, it's SOOOO terrible because the glowy bits aren't where the glowy bits are supposed to be. Look at all that terrible perspective, the lack of motion, the horrible color selections. This artist is garbage and should die, poor and unemployed in a ditch.

Guh.

Perspective is screwed (look at the bolts), color selection is nothing special and the Striker looks like a 3D model without any shaders.

I guess you'd have no issues with a card art for a WW2 game showing a Tiger with the exhaust at the back of the turret.

I'm over it.

So the reactor was a little hot...

It's like ground effect lighting.

All the hip TIE ace pilots are adding them. And spoilers.

There was ship in the movie that looked a hell of a lot like a TIE Striker with a spoiler on it.

I haven't been able to find out what it is and it's only in like one shot in the movie.

Not particularly. Is the game fun?

I don't expect too much from art in a game like this. I can't imagine that a company like FFG pays much per piece for its art assets. Frankly, I'm surpised that the art is as high quality as it is.

What is the whole in the middle that isn't the engine supposed to do/look like?

It's supposed to look like it does on the model. A dark hexagon.

Naw, I just have issues with people crapping all over well-produced art that, when looked at objectively, maybe has a minor flaw in detail but is otherwise well done, and you can tell the artist worked hard on the piece.

And there is a big difference between painting the wrong engine location on a TIE model (which is clearly confusing given the number of different TIE chassis and lack of canon disambiguation regarding TIE exhaust locations) and something so obvious as an exhaust port on the back of a manned turret of a craft that exists IRL.

But this is coming from an artist, so, we're our own worst critics to begin with.

That's the one. I wonder if the one with the spoiler is the ship we see a bunch of the black armored troopers jumping out of.

It is, it's just after that screencap happens. You also see one from the underside flying over the crowd on the Ring of Kafrene at the start of the film.

Anyone else able to figure out the other named pilots role in the Battle of Skarif?

Countdown shooting down Merric makes sense.

The other pilots.... Well, Imperial Trainee obviously is in orbit and Black Squadron Scout is over open ocean, so may not be on scarif at all. Scarif Defender is over generic jungle - but then, is a generic pilot.

Duchess.png

Duchess - that's a pair of AT-ACTs she's overflying, which implies the "out of the smoke come the walkers" bit, but the walker isn't the thing the smoke trail is coming from.

Pure_Sabacc.png

Not sure about pure sabbac. That's either snow, or smoke, sparks and an explosion. I can't remember how close the striker that strafes the gantry jyn is on gets to it?

Based on the full artwork for Sabacc, defo not on Jakku and over a snow planet.

That is FAQing awesome! That Striker is totally catching air after jumping over the ridge. TIEs make the best snow boarders!

Back on 'topic' I do get somewhat miffed when TIE details are not portrayed accurately, but then I've been studying their details for decades and I am one of those nerds that can tell you the minute differences in the TIEs from ANH and ESB/Jedi. I will need to study R1 a bit more to see if the CGI TIEs hold up.

This post I made has bugged me since I made it. I`m just not this cruel over anything much less something so freaking minor as a picture of a star wars spaceship. I can`t even really say what came over me. I feel especially foolish and immature about it.

It is a good picture. It does as others have said indicate a great deal of skill and care and I am 100 percent certain the person that made it wanted it to be the best it can be. I can not be sure if whoever did it has seen this thread. But if they do I would like to offer my apologies for acting like a child over it.

I don`t like bullies. `internet` or otherwise and I feel bad that I have somehow become that wich I despise .

Yea, I mean even the 501st on the Death Star were doing it, hell, someone even managed to capture one Tie's pilot modification on there ipaddroidsbottom2 just before the death stars destruction.
