YADHQ (Yet another damage/horror question)

By trgp, in Mansions of Madness

Hi, all. First post here. Thanks for the forum. I've recently bought MoM2 (actually, my wife did - WOO-HOO!) and am in the middle of an initial playthrough to get the rules down. I have a question about this rule:

"When an effect causes an investigator to suffer Damage or Horror, he
draws the top card of the Damage or Horror deck, respectively. He
claims the card faceup unless the effect specifies otherwise."

That's clear about drawing from the deck, but I can't find this - if I'm explicity instructed to suffer a facedown damage or horror, do I draw from the new D/H cards, or do I play only from facedown cards I already have? If the latter, what if I don't have any facedown cards? Does that mean I dodged a bullet?

Thanks.

Suffering horror/damage means you draw the respective card from the deck, face up (as you mentioned). You apply the effect and then keep them next to your character (counting against your health/sanity).

When you're instructed to suffer facedown horror/damage you still draw those cards from the deck, and set them next to your character. The only difference is that you don't look at the card to apply the effect. You keep it next to your character still.
