Rey and rerolls

By Cgriffith, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Her primary firing arc is forward, but her primary weapon is a turret. So in regards to rerolls what exactly is considered her "primary firing arc"?

Basically the only way to use her EPT or Finn is...

I was having a debate about this this evening and just want clarification. Thanks

Common question

No ship has a 360 degree firing arc

the YT-1300 has a printed firing arc on the ship token just like any other ship - the primary weapon turret allows the YT-1300 to perform attacks on enemy ships outside of the printed firing arc

addendum.

There is a slight complication to the rules for TWPs (Turret Primary Weapons)

Range and Arc are separate conditions when determining attacks

So in certain circumstances, the defending ship may be out of arc when measuring range from closest point to closest point, but still have part of it's base within the firing arc.

In this case the ship would still be considered to be "in-arc" even though the attack is performed from outside the firing arc

So Finn and/or Rey can be applied outside of the forward firing arc?

So Finn and/or Rey can be applied outside of the forward firing arc?

Finn is not arc-dependent, but Rey is ("if the enemy ship is inside your firing arc").

Ignore me. I cannot brain today. I has the dumb.

"When attacking with a primary weapon or defending, if the enemy ship is inside your firing arc, you may add 1 blank result to your roll."

Finn is arc-dependent...

Sorry if I wasn't clear

No - The Falcon has a firing arc, printed on its ship token but, thanks to its Turret Primary Weapon, it can also perform primary weapon attacks on enemies outside of this firing arc - hence in can perform "In-arc" attacks and "out-of-arc" attacks

When performing attacks on enemies that have any part of their ship base within the area designated by printed firing arc you may apply the bonuses granted by Finn and Rey (assuming you have them equipped)

If you perform an attack on an enemy ship and all of its ship base is outside the firing arc printed on the ship token then you don't get to apply their abilities

Thank you that's what I believed was the case, and how it was being applied. This was brought up last night and an argument ensued. My opponent believed it could be applied Finn/Rey "outside" the "primary arc" thank you everyone for the clarification I feel better now.

No problem - like I said it's a common misconception that ships equipped with primary and secondary turrets have a 360 degree arc - your friend isn't the first to trip up on this and won't be the last.

As you get more familiar with other upgrades like Autothrusters and Tactician, an appreciation of the distinction between performing attacks inside / outside of your firing arc is very useful.

It's worth clarifying too that even if you measure closest point to closest point and the line never passes through your arc, so long as even the tiniest bit of the target falls inside the arc it can trigger both Rey and Finn.

Okay, here's a question that I don't really have the answer for. Closest-to-closest is Range 3, but part of the enemy ship is out of Range (Range 4 for the epic-minded). Do

'in-arc' abilities still proc?

Do you mean "the only part of the ship's base that's in arc is beyond Range 3"? Because that's the only time it would matter what range the back of the ship is at. And even then it only matters for "In arc at Range X" abilities. "In arc" by itself doesn't have a maximum range.

Yes.

Fun extrapolation....does Etahn's ability have an end? Or can you fortress him in the corner and apply his affect to practicallly anyone.

The fact that "in-arc" doesn't inherently carry a range restriction is the reason that Ethan Abbot's pilot ability specifies the target ship must be at Range 1-3.
