Hello, all! I'll be attending my first tournament (other than a store championship) in a couple weeks. I've only been playing for a year, but I've been reasonably successful, locally, and I hope I'm not woefully out of my depth by going to one of these events.
At any rate, I am a bit perplexed by this new Distinct Rule for the System Open Series side events. From the 2017 System Open Series Briefing:
To play in a Hangar Bay side event, you should bring two standard squads that follow the 100-point maximum. These squads will use the same damage deck and obstacles. For the 2017 System Open Series events, we will also be using a new stipulation: the Distinct Rule states that each of your squads cannot use any of the same ship models, pilot cards, upgrade cards, or unique names as your other squad.
I think this is worded...murkily. It says it's for 2017 System Open Series events, but it's only listed under the Hangar Bay event description.
Here's my question: does the distinct rule apply only to the two squads that you bring to the Hangar Bay or all three squads (two for the Hangar Bay and one for the main tournament)? Whatever the case is, it needs to be clarified because that has pretty big ramifications. Whereas I'd be tempted to just bring two lists (one for the main tournament/primary for the Hangar Bay and a secondary for the Hangar Bay), if this rule applies across the whole thing, then I need three DISTINCT lists - one for the main tourney and two for the Hangar Bay - none of which can duplicate anything that any of the others has.
Am I making any sense? Does anyone know the intent and planned enforcement of this rule? I really don't want to show up and find out I've planned my lists incorrectly. I really don't do well building squads on-the-spot.
Thanks for your help!
