Striker Boosting

By Eskandare, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Two questions,

With adaptive alirons, can you boost with Engine Upgrade l after the maneuver dial?

Ad-Alirons>Maneuver>Boost

Is it possible to use PTL after a boost since it is a (free?) action?

Edited by Eskandare

The Striker does not have a Boost action icon, so if you're boosting a Striker, then you must have Engine Upgrade equipped. Assuming you have Engine Upgrade, you could boost during the perform action step. Then you could Push the Limit to perform another action after the boost. Alternatively, you could do an action, then Push the Limit to boost.

Ailerons is not a boost, it's a manoeuvre with all that entails. So yes you can boost as your action and no you cannot PTL off it.

Adaptive Ailerons: " Immediately before you reveal you dial, if you are not stressed, you must execute a white (bank-1) or (straight-1) maneuver. "

Nowhere does it tell you to boost, or that you can boost, or to perform a boost or boost action. It's not a boost action at all. It's a speed-1 maneuver that you must perform before you flip your dial over if you have no stress tokens. Because it is not a boost action, you cannot trigger Push the Limit from it.

As jmswood stated, you would need to equip the Striker with Engine Upgrade to be able to perform a boost action, and if you did, you would then be able to trigger PtL from that boost action.

Ailerons is not a boost, it's a manoeuvre with all that entails.

This incorrectly implies the ship may perform an action after Adapative Ailerons. This is no where in the card text, nor is it supported by the rules. Adaptive Ailerons requires the ship to Execute Maneuver, which includes three substeps: Move Ship, Check Pilot Stress, Clean Up. Then the ship continues with it's Activation, which includes Perform Action after executing the maneuver on the ship's dial.

So yes you can boost as your action and no you cannot PTL off it.

This is baseless and wrong for two reasons. First: the Striker cannot boost without Engine Upgrade. Second: any ship equipped with Push the Limit may trigger Push the Limit once per round after any action.

It implies no such thing, in either case, but could have been less concisely stated.

The bit I'm trying to get at is, since PTL is a maneuver not a boost can you use it after boosting with engine upgrade.

Where I'm gojng with this is Ad-Alirons > Maneuver > Engine Upgrade (boost) > PTL?

With engine upgrade is what I mean. That's what I'm after. So... I can Ad-Alirons > Maneuver Dial > Engine Upgrade > PTL.

1. Yes, you can take Boost as your action (With Engine Upgrade) after moving if you can normally take an action (No bumping, not stressed)

2. You can PTL off of any action, but you can only PTL into an action on your action bar.

The Striker does not have a Boost action icon, so if you're boosting a Striker, then you must have Engine Upgrade equipped. If you're not stressed, the it would go like this:

  1. Adaptive Ailerons speed-1 maneuver
  2. Reveal Dial
  3. Execute Maneuver
  4. If you're still not stressed then Boost action (thanks to Engine Upgrade)
  5. Trigger PtL
  6. Action bar action (can't be another boost)
  7. Stress from PtL

I think you're a bit lost there. PTL is definitely not a maneuver. Neither is it a boost. It is the ability to perform any action on your action bar after you have performed your action this round. Things to keep in mind about this:

- you cannot perform the same action twice in one round

- if you are stressed, you cannot perform any actions

- you get one stress after performing your second action via PTL

Just making sure you don't get actions and maneuvers mixed up.
