So I started looking into setting up an Imperial squad list, and I was considering buying the Decimator expansion pack. Do you guys think it's worth the buy for a beginner Empire player?
Is it worth buying the Decimator?
It's a competitive ship. If you're a beginner to the game in general, you will have trouble flying on a large base. I'm a Rebel player and it took me a while to adjust to the Ghost's size. But yeah, it's really nice if you're able to draw all their attention to it and use other ships to take advantage.
Yes, it is pretty competitive. It also has more competitive build variants than the Lambda shuttle (which is usually only taken as a taxi for Palpatine).
A well tooled-up Decimator plus an Ace of your choice can make a great list.
It's a great ship. But it is more then likely going to die. So just be ready for it.
It has great pilots and great options with upgrades and the 3 crew slots are fun to play around with.

Heck Yah! One of the sexiest ships in the empire... And it's a solid ship for playing too.

To echo the above.. yes it's a good competitive ship. Not quite the absolute top tier of ship but very good and powerful with some varied options.
For a beginner it's even better for two reasons. Firstly with its mass of hitpoints it's quite forgiving. Secondly it's expensive when list building. A decently built Decimator is most of your list taken care of. Pretty easy to round out a competitive squad with one of the named pilots at the core.
General advice.. for all its hitpoints it will die fast if focus fired and with so much hull protected by only a little shields it's vulnerable to critical damage.
If you have a lot of squishy but super dodgy aces around the Rear Admiral piloted Deci with Vader and Gunner crew will be an absolute terror for them.
