Pelta, Pelta, Pelta

Why is this ship so strange?

Why does it, a canon newcomer and small fry, not to mention destroyed victim of one TIE Advanced, introduce a fleet-wide support mechanism (Fleet Command Upgrade icon) that even Home One can't do?

What am I missing from this non-descript has-been of a converted medical ship for clones?

I have watched Clone Wars and Rebels (at least up to this ship's introduction and destruction).

I like the shape, the size, and its inclusion in the game. It shouldn't be the overall command ship of a Rebel fleet, however.

Seems like a case of "Rebels" related power creep.

Sato is no Ackbar, my fellow Armadians.

Well, consider the fleet it was the Overall Command of, for what we saw it.

... It was the biggest bastard there.

Tangenically, this was just a fun, interesting way to introduce Fleet Command as a mechanic. It would have worked just as easily as "Fleet Modifications", and assume, for example, "All Fighters Follow Me" was "Refined Fighter Fuel", and "Shields to Maximum" were "Stolen Imperial Shield Generators. Military Grade."

Why not? Gameplay > fluff. As the game progresses, new mechanics will be added in. They'll be added in ships that are the most appropriate for those mechanics. I haven't watched Rebels, but from what I've gleaned, it's purpose is a command ship, so the mechanic fits the fluff.

Beyond that, it's not all that uncommon for a smaller/less technically proficient ship to be in command of much larger, more capable ships. I mean, how many of us run lists with commanders on flotillas? That's no different than a Pelta giving orders to an MC80, really.

Depends on which Ackbar camp you fall in cause if your like me, probably not, akbar is an over priced piece of garbage

Ackbar should have been something closer to:

If you attack a ship that another friendly ship has already attacked this turn add one dice. Or something or other.

Disclaimer for Dras: ;)

Not official rules terminology.

I wish "or something or other." was, though.

I'd use it a ton more.

Let's not forget Ackbar started an arms race which pretty much killed big ship play.

For my part, I'm hoping we see an upgrade card that allows flagships to take fleet support upgrades like these. It stands to reason your fleet commander will be on the flagship and close to all the ship coordination gear, but that isn't the case here. And really the only mechanic that cares about a 'flagship' is that it's whatever ship the commander is on.

So in the future I can totally see a title card for the MC80 like:

Restoration (8 pts): If this ship is your flagship, your upgrade bar gains the [fleet support] icon.

I would love to see the "Flagship" become a game play terminology for something like that so its not just the ship your admiral shall be chilling in this conflict.

I'd never thought of an upgrade card that refers to your flagship and giving it an extra ability. I think that's a cool idea. Just for fun, and since I wasn't positive, I just checked the RRG and it does include Flagship so I think it's already considered a game play term.

Well the fleet support upgrade was not conceived at the time of Home One. If the ship didn't have that upgrade it wouldn't have much going for it or much uniqueness to it I guess. It could also be considered a trial run, it is not very fast or well armed, so it could be a balancing test perhaps. There will likely be an imperial ship with the same upgrade soon...and if it were to be one with similar speed, armament, and role, the imperial quasar carrier could be a good contender for the next fleet command ship.

And if not that, there is likely an upgrade coming to allow a fleet command icon to be added to a ship.

Best guess for why the Pelta-class got the Fleet Command upgrade and a ship like Home One doesn't?

FFG wanted to introduce the Fleet Command upgrade and there was a brand new ship from Rebels that was the command ship of the Phoenix rebel cell. So it makes sense they gave the Fleet Command upgrade to a ship that commanded that fleet.

I wouldn't be surprised if an upgrade comes out later that allowed other Rebel ships to take the Fleet Command upgrade, so you can run it with your MC80s. I'd assume FFG wants to see how Fleet Commands balance out now that it's in the hands of the player base before they let just any ship have the ability to take that upgrade.

Plus it was an absolutely stupid watching a lone Vader completely devastate a Pelta with a lone TIE Advanced, using just the laser cannons. So I personally think the fault was more with Rebels than FFG for being dumb, but that's just me. It was literally the opposite evil version of the crazy stuff the Ghost accomplishes.

And people hate how an entire squadron of half a dozen Y's with Ion Bombs did less to a Star Destroyer.

Yeah, but... you know... Vader.

I mean come on, it is completely reasonable look what his kid did to the deathstar with 1 xwing.

Hera in a B wing

I'm not a fan of the Fleet Command upgrade type being proprietary and absent from MC80s and ISDs. Those ships would've clearly had that slot if it had been around.

The idea of making the commander's ship capable of equipping a Fleet Command upgrade is neat, though.

With a mini Death Star laser to blow up Arquitens?

That was the incident that I was thinking of :(

Killed big ship play you say?! HEHEHEHE

Can I just point out that Luke one shotted a moon sized space station in an xwing...... These Jedi have form.

Well, really they tend to have style more than form. :-)

I feel like fleet enhancement icons should be on the admirals themselves and not the ships.

I'd imagine that fleet command upgrades were not made till after Ackbar and Wave 2. We've come a long way.

Wait! Why can't we just get another Ackbar commander card? Like in a future campaign set. I still want to see a Leia commander from Episode VII or even something from TFA in Armada.

+1

This way it wouldn't be so obvious that FFG are making Amarda up as they go.

Whats wrong with Making things up as they go as long as they do so in respect to the past?
