Who else is probably starting with two Core Sets?

I do always enjoy deciphering these post Elrad keeping being you

Ooops am i that funny-looking while writing ? I had no idea...maybe my questionable english sometimes. You know at University they called me sometimes crazy. When a friend of mine told me everyone around her thought I looked like something had been gone wrong during the construction process, I never thought that I was that "special". But as long as you guys don't find it disturbing or boring... Won't have to force myself to look completely stoned... but I'll try no to be too boring cause someone will pull the emergency bell to sack me out of the Hype train before it crashes or it loses some wagons in a field full of mad cows.... Oh wait... there I go again... was like that at college, at University, in my (not so) active life... oh boy, time to go see that doc at the psychiatric hospital in my town...:D

\I think a double core is how I'll start for the extra dice and movement templates. Not to mention blister packs won't be available on day 1.

I agree with you on that point. (how am I supposed to look serious after my previous post ?) I have the same reason to go on two core sets : more game material is always welcome when you field many units and need desperately one particular token. And moreover, you never now when your dog... ... ... Ok Elrad, everybody on this forum does KNOW that YOU play in the same ROOM as your DOG.... well that said, let's go to sleep:D

Last night I talked with my twin about splitting two cores. We haven't decided yet. The tough part is that his main is Waiqar and his secondary is Daqan, while my main is Uthuk and my secondary is Latari. If only we knew how the new factions would be released ...

Like others have said, it would be nice to have two armies at home to play against myself. That's the biggest reason it's tough to split the box.

Still, I think it sounds really fun to get a large force from 2 cores. The options are staggering.

I want to add a couple thoughts to the multiple core set crowd. First, in full disclosure, I pre-ordered 3 cores from my FLGS, so I have already made my decision, but I wanted to point out a few thoughts that might make you say "hmm."

Three sets gives you a max tray version of Reanimate Archers and Reanimates. It gives you either a full tray of Spearmen (with 3 trays left over) or 2 separate six tray units and a six tray unit of cavalry. The point is that all of the units will be very "usable" and will *most likely* (see next point) provide value down the road if you intend on using Daqan or Undead as one of your main armies. The expansions will allow you further flexibility, but building the same number of units using expansions will definitely cost you a lot more.

If the *most likely* above doesn't come true, and the meta develops such that you never really see "game" value out of having the full regiments of figures above, you can still get "hobby" value from the figures you don't use, if you are in to that kind of thing. For example:

  • For the Waiqar, you can cut the skeletons in half and have them coming out of the ground, or make them missing an arm, or substituting different weapons to give your army more variety other than the 4 basic sculpts that come with the core. Additionally, one awesome touch is to have some of your skeletons painted in tattered blue and gold armor, with Daqan shields and fill your ranks with them when you have a necromancer in your unit raising undead. It adds a whole level of street cred to your army :).
  • For Daqan, you can paint some figures that you might not use every day in the colors of different Baronies, so that you can have more variety to the look of your army that might fit whatever campaign or theme you have. Taking a group of Oathsworn Cavalry that you might have laying in a Ziplock bag somewhere and painting them all with Lord Hawthorne's symbol on white horses, you could create an elite "lucky" force that you only break out if Lord Hawthorne is in your group.
  • Finally, for both armies, one of the things that excites me about the card based upgrade system is that you can model the upgrades. I am already thinking of what different weapon color scheme I can think of to make my "Tempered Steel" upgraded units. Perhaps the tempered steel has a slight blueish hue that is much more bright (or dark). Perhaps a Rune Golem that used as an upgrade (and therefor doesn't actually attack itself) carries 1 banner in each of its arms to inspire the troops around it to give the benefits it has.
  • The same is true for the heroes. While Kari Wraithstalker might be used as plain old Kari in your games, having an unpainted version in your drawer ready to be painted up with differently so that the amazing "Bloodthirsty Blade" upgrade that came out with Wave 4 and works perfect with Kari can be perfectly represented with, well....a bloody blade.

The above is not meant to advocate for buying more core sets (or anything for that matter), but for me part of the joy of a miniature game is really taking it to the next level in terms of lore and hobbycraft. Once you start treating your army as a creative outlet to entertain both yourself and the people you play against, you get much more joy out of the game, such that it really transitions to a hobby.

Anyway, just wanted to add my two cents to the equation and share my thoughts in the hope it might inspire some folks to think a little differently about their toy soldiers.

Coming to think of it, as Waiqar was part of the Daqan you'd have thought his soldiers would be in the Daqan colours.

Edit:

Oh and despite your logical points I'm going for two core packs so I can get the upgrades from the blister packs.

3 core sets... well reading your post helps to figure out why paying 300$/€ could be interesting. While skipping a half loan will have me thrown through the window before having the time to enjoy my time with those minis. But yes it gives possibilities in the long term. Good to know, thank you @Oloh for your idea :)!

Like Scrooge McDuck, we know that Schottisches are misers :D

I'm just going to spilt two cores with another person. I don't need to collect both core armies out of the game.

Fate has decided for me, my finances will potentially be strapped a bit more now due to a car accident last night so I too will be splitting 2 core sets Waiqar it is now! lol /sadface

Sorry to hear that i hope you are alright.

I will probably buy only one core for the beginning and see if i can get someone into the game to split and get a second core.

thanks I'm fine...I think lol... In this regard it's nice that my decision was made for me...

Good to hear that, I myself was just once in a car accident, a friend was driving me to school bt we had to pick up another friend and there is a junction shorttly before his house and my friend didn't saw someone coming from the right, wasn't a big accident but it shocked my quite a little.

And then in 2015 my parents had a car accident and at first it seemed fine, of course but had to go to hospital but it wasn't lethal or something like that but the my dad had to had more and more operations and sadly in the end he passed away because of a pulmonary embolism which was triggered by a thrombose.

I liked your post not because I like car accidents but because your testimony touched me. I remember a car accident that happened in my neighborhood when i was a kid, I do remember the crashed car with the hood wide open and the engine looking like... oh well, and the blood too... Never nice to witness nor to live when you're involved (I wasn't nor any of my family members, but still...). Now that I drive myself, I'm a bit of a too careful driver at sometimes, especially when the road is to narrow for two cars to cross path or in very bad segments of road (or dirt) in the countryside. Take care everybody, cars are mobile coffins ! Don't get distracted, I know what I'm saying : nearly hit a pedestrian who was not in his right and was crossing the street !

Granting we get enough supply here in the Philippines, I'm targeting at least 2 core sets with a buddy to split them with and probably taking at least 1 each of the expansions from wave 0.

The more I think about it, the more I think I'm going to be pretty conservative out of the gate and probably won't buy two core sets.

For one thing, I can't decide at all whether I'd go with Daqan or Skellies. I really want to paint both, and I won't know which one I'll want to fully commit to until I get to play a little, and until we see more expansions come out.

I'll probably pick up a core and all four of the announced expansions. I may also try to buy more Carrion Lancers or Rune Golems from people parting out core boxes. But otherwise, I think I'll be aiming for 100-150 point games with just the core box, wave 0 expansions, and borrowed models until I see what happens with wave 1.

@olah

I'm thinking to use magnets and maybe some spare parts from -gasp- wfb minis to show upgrades for fun. I think we will also see people magnetize bases too

edit: I'm also thinking to add some magnet spot to each base that can lock to some decorative feature like tombstones or ruined walls or dead trees so each formation has a theme when on the base together

I am buying two core sets blindly, without waiting for any reviews, and will probably buy multiples of all the expansions.

And my therapist said I had been making such good progress...

I envy your disposable income...

Or impulsive irresponsibility...

Either way, I'm going to have to hide them from my wife

I take offense to this. Waiqar was part of Timmoran's lame Acolytes, not the Baronies :P

I played the Baronies in DiskWars, back when Daqan was just a knight and not king of everything yet :)

Waiqar just got himself captured by Llovar and tortured a bunch which apparently made him eeeevil.

buying any further core set will bring a continous toss in the fact that the two heroes will be each time too much. of course every time you'll have 90% of added value but the 10% left will be a toss in game perspective (after that, we can tranform the mni, paint it how we want, etc.) So to me buying 3 core sets is not an option (because paying 300$ for 240$ of real game value... well [assuming the two heroes cost 15$ each]). What do you think ?

I think I may yet modding the heroes into champions

Great minds think alike, I was thinking the same!

Great minds and also people who are used to the same kind of activity ^^ but yes I was imagining that too at the back of my brain.... But once in hand, I'll be happy to discuss how to mod a mini without transforming it into a rotten piece of Angus beef.

I lack your skills. So I was probably going to cut them up into pieces and use the decapitated parts as decoration for the bases.
