Who else is probably starting with two Core Sets?

By Leowulf, in Runewars Miniatures Game

I'm graduating soon with my Ph.D. but don't have a job lined up, so I may not be able to buy into Runewars at release. I do plan to get it by year's end. Still, I was wondering if one of you double-core folks might consider sending me your second lore book. I really want to stay up-to-date with the lore and be able to participate in the lore discussions. I know to some it's a lot to ask, but I thought it wouldn't hurt to just throw that out there and see if I get a bite. PM me if you're willing.

I teach Biology and got my acceptance letter to Johns Hopkins for a degree in Biotechnology, which will set me back 20K. Hoping my stocks do well enough for me to get 2 cores :P

@Budgernaut and @Waywardpaladin congrats guys! If I wasn't on a budget myself, I'd be getting two cores too, just so I could run multiple starter box army games with my friends who aren't preordering. Sadly, I shall not have extra components to give you. Surely they will publish the lore book online as a PDF? If not, I bet you can just ask around at any big game store on Runewars night and there will be some 'I bought five cores' guy that will hand you one.

I'll be getting two cores myself, although frankly I'm not too happy about it. I'd rather have bought a single core and some wave 0 upgrade packs. Looks like the first wave is still at least 3 months away though, at best.

I'm still hoping they will announce Infantry expansion packs for Wave I as well. I would much rather buy a few Infantry expansions than a second core right now, and wait for a Core II.

I'll be starting with a single Core and supplement as more units come out. Picking up a second core set is dependent on what the single unit releases look like.

Cool! I'm trying to get a job teaching biology at the college level. I've got a handful of rejections, but several more applications are still pending. I have a lot of experience teaching in the classroom and I have a certificate in college teaching (a formal training program at my university), but I lack course design experience, so I think I fall behind a lot of other applicants. Still got my fingers crossed, though.

Well then you are in luck.

All the units from the core will be in wave one, along with mounted heroes. Of special note is that the rune golems and carrion lancers come 2 to a box for $35 US.

Seems like pretty good value, it's nice that they put these out so you DON'T have to buy multiple cores. Maybe this article needs its own thread though?

Yeah, I have a BS in Genetics and Cellular Biology, then got a Masters in Science Education. New rules require instructors to not only have a Masters but specifically 18 graduate credits in the field they're going to teach. So despite my degrees I'm apparently unfit to teach Bio 101 at a community college.

The courses at Johns Hopkins will help with that, so I could teach dual-enrollment at a high school or at a university.

On topic,

I'm a bit worried about the "upgrades to use in any army" mention in some of the upgrade box write ups. I thought they were not going to put in upgrades that could be used by another faction?

Yeah, we will see. As long as they mirror non faction specific stuff in other releases it should be fine. It will really grind on me if it turns out generic upgrades are only available in one expansion. They've said that won't be the case though.

Perhaps the "4 upgrade cards" to use in any army will be just the same as in both faction boxes?

All that means is that not all the upgrades are specific to the hero. On another note though it looks like the terrain and objective cards are unique to each hero.

A while ago, @Oloh told us about his plan on buying three core sets. While I am not going to buy so much because it's nearly the amount of a rent, I'm still interested in the plus and minus value of doing so.

By buying three core sets you can field 3 carrion lancers/rune golems and you have a lot of figs to build biggest the biggest formations so far for spearmen and maybe archers. On the contrary, you have a toss with kari and Ardus clones... In regard of what wave 1 will bring, however, I question the move on three core set to be that bad because you get nearly everything to play a larger scale game than originally thought.

On the plus side you've got a ton of game material which is always welcome on board. On the contrary again, if you plan on buying every single expansion for your army (or both for the richest/biggest fans among us); it will cost you a small fortune...

Are they still someone who'll go on directly on more than 2 core sets ?

Ive had another look at the Hawthorne and Ankuar pics and it looks lime they come with 2 hero specific upgrades, 2 commander upgrades(likely their mounted and unmounted versions.) and two amulet upgrades of which the one revealed for each are faction specific.

Do any of us here not have at least one degree in Biology?!

I myself am Genetics with a PhD in Microbiology doing Synthetic Biology.

I'm a historian for myself, not much in comparison with all of you business and science men/women (don't know if there is any girl among the regular poster here).

I'm a non scientist with a mom pharmacist who wanted me to take on her pharmacy but never told me loud enough for me to take that direction. but maybe wouldn't I have delved into boardgames nor got a degree in sciences because I was not attracted by it at first...

I lack a PhD or a biology degree! I'm just a nerd into table top games lol..though down the road from me as a game wholesaler called PHD so can that count? lol
