[Video] Wave V New Player game- testing new camera angles

By WWPDSteven, in Star Wars: Armada

Hey guys- a few things.

First, this was a game for a fairly new player- he hasn't played Armada since Wave I so remembered the basics. I really tried to make the lists well rounded and fun. Plus, I wanted it to be a fun game for him so I tried to spice in some teaching moments on my own activations :P

Second, I wanted to use this opportunity to try out a fairly low-overhead method of changing up the camera angle somewhat dynamically. it's difficult to "produce" on the fly while playing a game, but I think the setup last night represents a good trade off between my ability to keep the stream dynamic without interfering in the game too much. Please let me know what y'all think!

Excellent Steve. New angles worked.

I axtually have a huge gaming weekend coming up and i sent this out to some of my attendees who are interested in learning/refreshing in advance.

Awesome, thanks Mad! Those lists felt pretty well balanced without being overly complex.

I haven't watched the whole thing yet, but I like what I see so far (about half way through). Best part about most of your streams is that for the most part they are clean, language wise, and I can watch them with my 10 year old. I might be sending this link to my nephew who just got into the game so he can learn a little more. As for the camera, I really like the change up, nice a close and seems easy to switch to when ships are in the shot.

Keep up the great work.

Love it.

Definitely digging the new camera angle. Makes the game a lot more dynamic. It is harder to gauge arcs and distance at the lower angle, however.

I know constantly switching between the two angles is not something you want to spend the whole stream doing (as you said, the production of it is difficult to do while trying to pew pew at the same time). So if you're looking for some easy, not-to-often triggers for when to change the angle, might I suggest:

  • If you find yourself thinking/saying: "Now THIS is Star Wars!" switch to the low angle
  • If you find yourself thinking/saying: "Whew, this here's a-gonna take some miiiiighty precise flying" switch to the overhead angle.

Don't stress it, because I could watch and enjoy the whole game at either angle. Just my two cents. :)

Steve, I expect ACTION in my camera angles sir!!! ACTION!

:-P

Perfect, thank you guys for the feedback!

Stay tuned- there will be MUCH streaming this weekend :)

That ISD has XI7s mounted TWICE!!!

The horror.
