First try customizing ships

By No Pickles, in X-Wing Painting and Modification

Hi all. I don't have much experience painting. Most of these are done with colored sharpies and pencils.

First up is my Decimator

Not bad! I quite like the alternate color. What about the rear of the model? Any changes or just the same?

That is remarkably clean and crisp around the edges! Bravo! Did you use the gold and silver sharpies? If so, I may have to steal your method.

Subtle but extremely effective alterations.

You've moved my appreciation of this ship up a notch.

The bars on the side make me think of the rank flashes on the Imperial navy uniforms. Is that intentional? Either way, it's a nice idea...

Pretty much. I started by tracing the various conduit/pipes and the things they were connected to. I did a few panels in black, for some variety, and an odd panel or two in the metallic silver or gold, just to break up any symmetry.

I used a minimal amount of color for some of the little bumpy things.

I then did some pencil shading to some of the panels, and a few scorch marks.

The last step was spraying a clear finish over it.

I wanted to post some more pictures but couldn't figure out how to get aroung the 500kb limit

Figured it out. I think I'll start a new thread with my sharpie mods

No Pickles, you made a sweet ride even sweeter! I haven't added this ship to my collection yet, but I'm going to borrow what you've done to it. Excellent work!

I love how greatly you improved this ship's appearance with just very minor and somewhat subtle detailing.

This turned out beautifully!!
