Is this box for this expansion like the core game box (sturdy, thicker cardboard) or is it flimsy thin stuff like the figure and tile collection boxes?

Yes the box is much more rugged - similar to the original. Mind you i stow mine in 1 big box anyway

Do you think the box is tall enough to store minis in while they are standing on the bases?
